I hope they don't play any of Syd's songs this time around. On Pulse, it was nice that they started with Astronomy Domine, but Dave Gilmour sounds f**king stupid trying to sing Syd's songs.

Syd Barrett's songs sound stupid themselves.

That all depends on which ones you mean.
His Pink Floyd stuff was ground breaking back then, albeit bloody hard to listen to.
Interstellar overdrive has a great rift but then gets seriously weird in the middle for about 10 minutes then
when the rift comes back in the song has changed speed completely.
It would of been a bitch to reproduce live.

The mad cap laughs album has some nursrey rhyme type stuff as well as glimpses of brilliance .
"Golden Hair" was good as was "No good trying"
No mans land is a corker of a song that holds up well even today in my opinion.

Now in saying that he does have some "stupid " stuff on madcap as well...actually very bloody stupid.

"Feel"
Now there some f**ked up sh*t.

"Love you"
Another syd gem for the kiddies.

But for every stupid or weird song he recorded there was always a great singalong like.
"Here I go"

He also had a a unique way to end songs ...they kind of just disenegrated at times.

Don't forget he was insane by this stage.

Syd Barrett's stuff was awesome. But yes, I think Gilmour should stick to the post-Syd material. But that said, I'd give anything to see them play Spice Girls tracks. Would love to see them live, but very unlikely.

Some of Syd's stuff is good. Some of it just gives me the sh*ts though. Much prefer the Roger Waters and Dave Gilmour written songs, but that's just me.

True , but in saying that they probably would of never happened without him.
He had done all he could, Waters was too dominate a song writer as it turned out.

(Even though I saw both live)
I never liked any of their stuff after Waters left.
&
I never really liked any of Waters solo stuff either.
Radio Kaos was like a depressing extension of the final cut as was pro's and cons.
But that "Amused to death" should of been called bored to death as far as I'm concerned.
I'm sure he used the same acoustic guitar rift about 5 times on 3 different records.

I saw the Sex Pistols Filthy Lucre tour and I was suprised at how bloody good they were.

You've got to be joking about the solo Waters stuff Carcherias. It basically follows on from "The Final Cut" and "The Wall" and all three albums are brilliant.

The Pros & Cons of Hitchiking - "Sexual Revolution" is a classic. The Eric Clapton guitar solo in that is awesome. Also liked "For the First Time Today" and the title track;

"Radio KAOS" - When I first heard this, the thin electronic sounds put me off a little. After a few listens, I've changed my mind on this. "Radio Waves", "The Powers That Be", "Who Needs Information" and "The Tide is Turning (After Live Aid)" are excellent;

"Amused To Death" - I regard this as one of the best albums ever made. Technically brilliant stuff and I reckon this is the album that "The Final Cut" should have been. "What God Wants", "The Bravery of Being Out of Range", "Three Wishes", "It's a Miracle" and the title track are all superb.

Read the lyrics and have a few more listens of each album and I'm sure you'll re-think your opinions of these albums. But then again, I could be talking a load of crap because I still think the best Floyd "song" is "Echoes" off the "Meddle" album.

Nothing wrong with Echoes, Dave Gilmour & Rick Wright sing brilliant harmonies.
One of the reasons I've always liked Pink Floyd was Gilmours's voice, Roger Waters is a bit too nasal, but a good contrast.

Sorry I disagree , Waters solo stuff has nothing on the Wall.Even though he wrote the whole thing just about.
The final Cut suffered over production problems that now even Waters says are noticable.
For instance all those bombs and sh*t are way to loud .

I've listened to it all enough to have made an opinion and I am a huge Waters and Floyd fan.
I don't like his solo stuff that much, it's his voice to start with.
It's a sh*t singing voice in terms of holding a note a la Dave Gilmour.
Sure it's perfect for songs like the thin ice but a whole album is just too much I feel.
As for Echoes , well thats a great song.
There is an old surfing movie called The Crystal Voyager made by a bloke called George Greenough.
The last 20 or so mins of the movie is footage from inside the tube in slow motion with Echoes as the music.
It's pretty "far out man" but worth a look.

I just thought Waters best moments where when he didn't try to write a "hit" like Radio Kaos...it seemed forced.

Hey but that's my opinion and that's yours .

I still like his music , but I prefer Floyd to him solo.

Most of you have probably already seen it by now but live in Pompeii has a
version of Echo's filmed in an old colosseum in broad daylight.
Nick Mason's drumming is bloody outstanding... not to mention his mo.

I wonder if they have all started to rehearse together yet or if they even will.
I have read some pretty cold things that R.Waters is to of supposedly said about and to Gilmour.
I read Gilmour went to Waters house and asked him to join the band
for some live gigs of "Dark side" they did a couple of years ago...
Waters allegedly told him to go f**k himself.
And asked on his opinion of "Delicate sound of Thunder" waters allegedly
called it a poor forgery.

For the record I dusted of Amused to death last night . I haven't listened
to it again yet but I will tonight just to refresh my memory.
I'll go from start to finish before the footy whilst having a few beers.
Maybe I was hoping for another "goodbye blue sky" or another "brain damage" when I first go it.
I was stunned to read it has been 13 years already!!!
I still have the "Brashes" price tag on it.
I think it was $13.99 the ink has faded....more likely $23.99.

Live in Pompeii is really compelling. I first got a hold of it years ago off the old man who'd taped it off a laser disc during a big expedition I remember him undertaking bloody near 15 years ago now, borrowing and taping anything he could off laser disc. I've since bought it on DVD. My favorite version of One Of These Days is here. Echoes is split at the beginning and the end but is still brilliant. This is also the best "live" performances I've seen or heard of songs like Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun. This performance is certainly the best of their "middle" stuff, being post-Syd but pre-Dark Side.

It is brilliant stuff. Even my kids (aged 3-13) like it, although sadly my wife doesn't share their opinion.

I'm still waiting for Gilmour to sign off on the "Pulse" DVD which has continually had its release date put back. The last I heard it is now October 2005 but I'll believe it when I see it. There's supposed to be a lot of extras for it and it will be 100% on the fake copies floating around on E-bay. Perhaps relations between Waters and Gilmour will soften sufficiently to see a lot of the other Floyd concert material released on DVD.

There's also rumours floating around some of the UK discussion boards about a possible 2006 studio album (the Waters-less incarnation of Pink Floyd) and it will be interesting to see if this has any substance to it. If so, long overdue and hopefully it will be new material.

ABC NSWThe Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett Story (50 mins , Rated: PG)
Genre: Documentary

The sudden departure of Pink Floyd's founding member Syd Barrett in 1968 marked the closure of the first prolific chapter in the Pink Floyd story. A maverick artist and true individual, Syd Barrett helped forge the British psychedelic scene when he formed Pink Floyd with Roger Waters, Rick Wright and Nick Mason in 1965. This special charts the band's rise to fame under Syd Barrett's influence, and traces his premature departure under a cloud after reports of drug abuse and psychological problems. Richly illustrated with rare early footage of the band performing, alongside new interviews with the members of the band - David Gilmour, Rick Wright, Roger Waters and Nick Mason - and their associates, fans and friends including Jerry Shirley (Humble Pie), Graham Coxon (Blur) and original band member Bob Klose. Featuring classic early Pink Floyd songs such as Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Interstellar Overdrive, Arnold Layne, See Emily Play and Bike.

Damn this is great news. I've been a huge PF and RW fan for years. Most of the groups I listen too have some influences from PF in some ways.
Hope they play at least a 2 hour set and record it for DVD.
