St George Illawarra were never an equal match for the in form Panthers in yesterdays NSWRL Premier League fixture.
The Panthers raced took a slim 6-0 into halftime after the lack lustre Dragons bombed a number of promising chances.
When the Panthers went to a 18-0 nil lead the game was virtually over. The Dragons put on two quick tries, firstly to Cowboys bound Mark Dalle Cort and then Lee Bennett to give them a faint sniff but defense again let the Saints down as Penrith piled on more tries to secure the win.
Best for Saints was Damien Bower, everything good that happened he was involved in and he never stopped trying. Storm bound Panthers fullback Steve Turner deserves mention for his hat trick. His defensive effort at fullback was far from perfect though it was his attack that caught the eyes of many.
The Dragons remain in fourth spot, quickly losing touch with the top teams. They simply need to find some form and soon.
ST MARYS-PENRITH COUGARS 30 (S Turner 3, B Howland, P Lewis tries; D Russell 5 goals) d. ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA DRAGONS 12 (M Dalle Cort, L Bennett tries; D Byrne 2 goals)
In others news there is speculation that Trent Barrett could be declared fit to play for the second week of the semi finals, if the Dragons were to go that far
