PNG knock out style comp - has one ever existed ?

With the French Lord Derby Cup final being played over the weekend and the UK Challenge Cup round six draw looming I'm curious to know if PNG has ever had a knockout competition?

In the 80's and 90's the Cambridge Cup was played post season by Champion clubs from each of the Provinces.

I presume it just lost interest from authorities and /or fans or became too expensive to run ?

NZ had a similar tournament....infact the 1982 Final is on Youtube great game between Petone and Randwick

I was wondering about NZ

So at some point in the early 1980's possibly five RL nations held a knock out comp that encompassed the bulk of RL areas.

Costs and a focus on the Inter-City competition (now the Digicel ExxonMobil Cup).

They did try reviving it in late 2019, however I think it became a victim of COVID

The PNG Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) will revive the club championship format after 21 years being dormant.
