Oh bloody fantastic news. Isn't it great to see rugby league grow in PNG but also know that rugby league does a lot of good for the country as well.

Boys get K300,000 funding

By HENRY MORABANG

The code of schoolboys rugby league has received K300,000 for the next three years, courtesy of Nestle (PNG) through its Milo brand.

The K100,000-a-year support has also given Milo the naming rights to the PNG Schoolboys team to Russia later this year.

PNG Rugby Football League executive director Jeff Wade said the money would be spent on essential equipment like goal post pads, medical kits for the various centres involved with schoolboys’ competition, and jerseys purchased for use of school teams that don’t have their own uniforms.

He added that the zone championship was an expensive exercise but the Russia trip will even cost more.

Wade brushed aside any criticisms against the selection of the team management, stating that they were the best people for the job.

“I can’t see why anybody could argue with the officials. Ifi Segeyaro the team manager started the schoolboys competition in PNG and is the current chairman of Schoolboys Rugby League,” he said.

Wade said Steve Malum is a seasoned coach and has been involved with Lae schoolboys since its inception and is a qualified level two coach with SP Cup experience while Dr David Inaho has been involved with the schoolboys since its inception.
Dr Inaho specialises in sports medicine and has previous experiences with travelling PNG sporting teams.

He said Alex Yani is the tour manager and has been involved with the competition since its inception. He is also the operations manger for a large PNG company and can speak Russia.

Any news if this Russian Under 16s shin dig is on? Because if it isn't going to be on, lord they had better tell us now so we can reschedule.

Great news. What's going on in PNG? For years we've struggled to get sponsors and now things just keep getting better. Has the economy improved? Any Economists here?

Milo gets naming rights to schoolboys team

NESTLE (PNG) Ltd has got the naming rights to the Papua New Guinea schoolboys national team to September’s Youth World Cup championship in Russia with a K100,000 sponsorship.
The schoolboys team will be known as the Milo PNG Kundus and will attend this high profile tournament dressed by Milo.
Meanwhile founder of schoolboys rugby league and former Kumul five-eighth Iffysoe Segeyaro has called on parents and family members to support their children when they take up the code.
Segeyaro, overwhelmed by the support at the close of the inaugural national junior zone championship in Lae over the weekend, said “the culture of rugby league is going to grow, that I can assure you, and more centres will come on board next year’’.
Segeyaro who flew his son, James, from Smithfield State high school in Cairns, Australia, to make the Southern zone side last week said “I had to pay more than K2000 to bring my son here to participate in the tournament and it’s all worth it for me’’.
Young James is keen to follow the colourful trails his father left behind after making the Milo PNG Kundus side.
The schoolboys competition was introduced in Port Moresby in July last year with Lae, Goroka, Rabaul, Kokopo, Central and Bialla joining this year.
Nestle’s national marketing manager Trent Young said his company was more than happy to support the PNG children and would keenly dress them to Russia to represent the country.
