I still think it exists in Saudi Arabia…plenty of money flowing with all that oil so where there is money then this goes with it …. More underground and less foreigners than Dubai but sure if you are in the know and have the money you will be accommodated

They won't have any problems getting players with the tax exemption. The 2 key target players profiles will be guys in their last few years getting a pay day and guy who are trying to crack a regular role in their preferred position. 2 players recently as a example are Ben Hunt and Cory Paix. Those demographics actually makes a good roster with a good blend experience and raw ambition. Throw in the fact that they're only there to play football .. a few Papauns playing for pride and you might just get the perfect ingredients for a highly competitive team.

I am still a but skeptical about the PNG team but more from a spectator point of view. There is little spectator evidence of sell out crowds.

If a "resort facility" was built near Port Moresby it certainly can alleviate some concerns however I still don't think any families are normally going there.

That said, if PNG were to target Pacifika players, especially Fijians but also others the location will be less of a problem and in actual fact, as many are providing for their wider families the attraction of an extra 30 - 40 percent in money would be huge and unlikely to be rejected.

As for name and colours, I actually think PNGRL should try and ensure the name and colours are actually a bit different to the Kumuls as it will inhibit the national brand.

Don't use "PNG" (that is the national brand')

Maybe use "Hunters"

Instead of red black and yellow, just use Black and Yellow (for instance).

This leaves room for two separate but powerful brands.

One specific to the NRL.

The other specific to international football.

Additionally, by subtly leaving PNG out of the official name, it opens to the door to support from Melanesian people's (Fiji, New Caledonia, central Pacific and even West Papua)

They would show up to watch any random league player that most people on the east coast would have no idea who he is

Sure the PNG locals may do that but the NRL itself needs marketable players in teams for their TV deals and the games here. Nobody is going to turn up to see PNG's NRL team in Sydney with a bunch of QLD Cup players and whatever NRL players PNG can get together.

No one is moving their family up there. They should develop a decent team though

But how? Great young players within an existing NRL set up are usually mentored by older players, coached by great coaches etc.

Will PNG even be able to attract an NRL standard coaching staff?

The 1 million he makes in AUS is taxed - be paid around 600k or so after tax
The 1.2 million he makes in PNG is tax free

Even if 1 million he will be paid 400k or so more per season in PNG Compared to AUS being tax exempt.

One assumes accommodation and meals etc will be provided and flights

Don't want to really turn this into a Roosters thing but the Roosters haven't signed a big marquee player in years let alone got one for unders. Brandon Smith is probably the closest to a marquee player we've got in the past 4 seasons and I think you'd agree that on 850k a season we overpaid.

Admittedly yes it is more difficult for Canberra however I disagree with the Gold Coast, I think not a lot of players want to go to the Gold Coast due to the management of the team, a rookie coach (Until Hasler came along), not many great juniors and they've sucked on field for a very long time. I don't think it has much to do with the geographical location or anything like that, who wouldn't want to live on the Gold Coast?

With PNG even if it is for the first few seasons it still doesn't seem to be fair. For me personally if PNG came along and took Nathan Cleary off the Panthers (Just as an example) simply because PNG can offer incredible amounts of money that'd be really unfair on Penrith and they couldn't realistically compete with the offer. Why take 1.2 million from Penrith and walk with 750 -800k after tax when you can sign for 1.2 million for PNG and take all 1.2 million? An extra 400 - 450k in your account at the years end is hard to say no to regardless of how loyal or committed to staying in Australia you are.

I think what would have worked best is a marquee system not unlike what the A League soccer league does. PNG could've had 1 Australian marquee that gets the no tax salary up to a million dollars and a Papua New Guinea marquee slot that gets the no tax salary if eligible. That would allow the new PNG side to get themselves two marquee players with a slight advantage and allow them to sign the best PNG player available in the market
