Apologies for my ignorance. Is he any good? Was he a regular first grader? I remember there was a Polynesian forward playing for the roosters but not sure if it’s the same bloke.

Roosters No.7 Kyle Flanagan has been told he will not have his current contract renewed beyond 2021 as rising prop Poasa Faamausili is sized up for a move to St George Illawarra to ease salary cap pressure at Bondi.

NRL.com understands that Flanagan is now weighing up rival interest, led by the Bulldogs, after being told that teen prodigy Sam Walker and Lachlan Lam are viewed as the club's long-term halves options alongside Luke Keary.

The Roosters have made no official comment on either Flanagan or Faamausili's future.

Faamausili is understood to be in talks with the Dragons around a two-year deal that would require an immediate release from his Roosters contract, which is not due to expire until 2022.

The 24-year-old has impressed in his limited first-grade chances in recent years but found himself stuck behind the likes of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Siosiua Taukeiaho and Queensland Origin hopeful Lindsay Collins.

Faamausili entertained a move to Cronulla earlier this year before being loaned to the Warriors, and he looms as Anthony Griffin's first signing as Dragons coach if they can negotiate a release from the Roosters.

Meanwhile Flanagan is considered likely to request permission to begin negotiations with rival clubs after being told he only has one more season at most left in red, white and blue.

Canterbury are believed to be leading the chase for the former Shark, having already planned to target Flanagan from November 1 when he came off contract.

Incoming Bulldogs coach Trent Barrett is understood to have Flanagan earmarked as a goalkicking playmaker to lead his Belmore rebuild.

Does anyone know about Faamausili? Is he a first grade prop and is he a better proposition to Kerr, Lawrie and Elis?

Looks like a tough, mean bugger in those 2 photos. Might be too hard for our lot. Hopefully shows our boys how to drink a long black rather than the late’s.

Know nothing about him but only 24 great age for a Prop, coming from a good system (Roosters) albeit playing for Warriors this year.

Interesting.....

What would you consider makes him a better proposition than those players? As someone else highlighted his tackle efficiency of 91% - Lawries is 93.5%, Kerr's is 92.1%, Ellis is 94.8%. So all of those players are better than him in that regard. He's about the same size as Lawrie or Ellis so there's no huge gain in size.

In fact, in general, from a stats point of view, our 3 generally perform better in most areas that the potential recruit.

I'd be happy to sign him up - but it's not about being a better prospect. Its about the coaches utilising the players we have better and capitalising on what they do well.

Looks as though Hook picked up the phone with Politis. :D

With Vaughan starting, don't think big Joe is an option.

Isn't this just media speculation at the moment - we're talking to him but haven't signed him yet correct ?

Yep he looks the goods - big boy with plenty of grunt in the engine . It would appear that the Dragons have finally realized that journeymen only sail off into the sunset . If they can manage to sign this chap , then the sun will only be just beginning to rise for St.George Illawarra team , as they will only improve under the tutelage of Griffin and company.

was thinking the same thing. I heard Gower was recently cut by Parra. Was expecting an announcement from our great club about his signing.

The pleasing aspect about the signing - if successful - is that it shows the new amalgamation of Griffin - Gentle - Elliott and Millward are performing their jobs diligently and without rushing into anything.

Also Faamuasili would be a much cheaper purchase than McGuire , yet another example of the change in the Joint Ventures thinking - not paying overs for players who simply do not perform .
