Polglase Injuried- missing 2 games

I'm surprised none of the Polglase haters picked up on this earlier:sarcasm:. Polglase tore his hamstring at training and will most likely miss the next two games to recover. It isn't the best time of the year for the injury to happen, but it will be good for some of the PL wingers get a run. We may see a straight replacement, or there is the (unlikely) possibility that Tighe will move to the wing and Franze could slot into the centres.

Source is today's Newcastle Herald.

We have a few options..

I doubt Tighe will move. Him and McManus are forming an alright combination, especially in defence.

I think we will see Gordon, Uate or Hinton come in.

Uate would be bloody unlucky not to make his debut with Kidley and Polglase gone.... Also Adam McDougal has played for what weeks in 8/9 games this year surely his due for one of his lengthy stints sometime soon lol.

Gordon will probably move into fullback with Kids gone, that means its up to Hinton or Uate I guess. And seeing that Uate has trained with the firsts before I would tip Uate to get a run.

As opposed to Hinton who's actually played in firsts? I'm pretty sure I read on here a whiles ago that both firsts and prems train together.

Yeah @ Fred, they do.

I want to see Franze more than anyone, I feel (based on nothing but others opinions) that Uate may be still too green. He should get a run in the next few weeks, but it seems from match reports etc that Franze has been rather impressive.

yeah bring on franze and sargent in the near future... our 2 off season buys yet to get a run. i want to see them have a chance to impress.

i'm sure they will though, smith has been exploring a multitude of options this year.. i do think eventually these 2 will get a run too.

So our backline for next week could look something like this (providing nothing happens in Origin )

1. Kidley
2. McManus
3. Tighe
4. Franze
5. MacDougall
6. Karawana
7. Mullen

Thoughts?

I've never been a real big fan of Franze but he has been getting quite a few wraps in Premier League. Although i have been quite against the move of Uate into first grade because he may be green, i think its time to give him his chance. Offers a lot more in attack than Franze but the only concern that i do have is having Macdougall and Uate defending on the same wing. But on the other side of the equation, that would be one tremendous sight in attack.

That looks pretty good, but Smith is a big Uate fan, so he may get a run.....

I dont like the halves though.

6. Mullen
7. Walsh

Thats my choice. Judging by the report in the Herald on Walsh, Smith thinks so too.

I think there has to be a reason Uate is not already in FG. Either he is out of form, battling injury, or Smith is trying to work on his ball handling skills.

Hinton has played FG before and has been playing on the wing in PL for quite a while. Depends whether Smith wants to bring up a winger or a centre. If the latter, then it would be hard to go past Franze.

I think you'll find it's more his defence that is the problem.

Also the macdougall on the wing thing didn't work, so I think he'll be forever a centre from now on.

assuming walsh isn't injured:

1. Gidley
2. McManus
3. Tighe
4. Macdougall
5. Uate
6. Mullen
7. Walsh

and the backline continues to change... but i think we're getting closer to our best. i'm confident that by the end of the origin series smith will know exactly who he wants to take to the finals.

I'd probably lean towards Walsh and Mullen as the halves. Karawana was great of the bench I don't see why he couldn't come off the bench and play some hooker.

Or Smith is worried about some of his "brain explosions" coming out of our own half.

The kid will be a star. But no doubt Franze and Hinton can do the job expected.

When he is ready he will play.

so does this include the bye they had this week?
so only one more game without polglase
or no including the bye, so two games without polglase?

Was just reading some stats about the premier league game on the weekend, and it said PL were down 0-40 at half time, (walsh came off 10 minutes after half time) and then they only scored 10 more points...i know the game doesn't rest on 1 player, but its sounds a bit iffy that the boys defended alot better with out him on the paddock...and he didn't do anything in attack...so I would be more inclined to look at a different option than mullen-walsh...

Not including the bye - sounds like he'll miss the Broncos and Roosters games

Manly would have gone into their shell last 1/2 hour and turned it into a defensive game for practice and also for injury prevention (IMO). I seriously doubt Walsh was the main reason why they scored so many, i'd be more inclined to blame outside backs and props.
