The draw for the 2015 World Cup is out today.

Things can't be much worse for the Wallabies, having to play England and Wales at Twickers.

At least we missed out on the Welsh in Cardiff. Not looing great though.

Of course it is. England, Wales and Australia regularly make the quarter finals, all 3 have played in the final 4 in the last 2 comps, but only 2 of those 3 will get through. Add into the mix Fiji who beat Wales to the quarters in 2007 and ran the Bokes close and it certainly is the pool of death.

making the 1/4's at the RWC is nothing f**king special...

i know if we were in that pool... we would be expecting to win every game handsomely...

Australia should be doing the same.

the difficulty in the RWC is at the KO stages...

the football world cup has f**king groups of death...

This makes no sense. You are saying that it isn't a group of death because making the Q Finals "isn't special".

That makes it a pool of death. 3 sides who regularly make it will just instead be 2 in the Q Finals. And then you also have Fiji who made it in 2007 over one of the aforementioned 3. That still makes it a group of death as "nothing special" making the Q Finals isn't that easy for the normal teams there.

And yes of course, you're a f**king Kiwi, naturally you have that attitude.

The pool of death is a good place to be if you're a serious contender. It means you go into the quarters battle hardened, not still in second gear after racking up cricket scores against minnows. It's only a bad thing if your the kind of side who thinks making the quarters is an achievement in itself rather than a minimum expectation.

Pretty big difference between this and a pool of death in a football world cup. In football the nature of the sport also plays a big part. Put 3 good sides together and it's perfectly conceivable that anything could happen in the games between them.

There are clearly "tiers" in rugby and if Wales beats Australia in a crucial RWC game that's basically a big upset and a "tier 2" team beating a "tier 1" team.

I know the results in the 6 Nations don't always bear this out but I reckon the Southern Hemisphere teams have pretty fair reasons for rating NZ/Aus/SA/England/France as being on a separate level to the next best sides. Come RWC time it's the same old teams who are realistic prospects of making the final or winning the thing.

Wales are one of the best teams in the world at the moment. To say they're tier 2 is laughable.

Yet for some reason they (and Ireland) rarely if ever beat the three top SH teams, while England and France do.
