Not a bad looking team, although there's no doubt with Willo being re-signed he'll be in the pack somewhere.

I'd say the team will look something like:

1. Stewart
2. Robertson
3. Bell
4. Matai
5. Bani
6. Lyon
7. Orford
8. King
9. Ballin
10. Kite
11. Stewart
12. Watmough
13. Williamson

14. Perry
15. Cuthbertson
16. Menzies
17. Bryant

what about vaeliki? dont think he was bought to play premier league but then again bani looks decent.
Are you guys happy with lyon at 5/8, keeping monas or burns would have been my preference. Although you do have 4 international centres on your books ( lyon, vaeliki, matai, bell)

He was. He isn't counted in the squad's top 25 players. He's been bought purely as back-up, and for some experienced cover during Origin.

I see Bani and Vaeliki battling for the wing spot throughout the year.

Lyon as 5/8 is still a learning process, he did start to have some decent games there towards the end of the season, running the ball to the line etc.

You can't just jump in there and expect him to do wonders. Maybe last year was a good year for him in that it is showing him how bloody tough the NRL actually has become, week in, week out.

I like most eagles fans bombarded the forums and tried to come up with answers, but we had one bad day & finshed on 36 points & finished 2nd.
The couple of things to get from our recruitment & our line up for 2008 (only four months to go)
*Our bench needs more impact & mobilty bryant days in first grade may be over.
*because of the interchange dropping le strange a good option off the bench skilled players to excel more.
* lyon must step up & fill void left by monas, he has the ability he just must think as a footballer not a 5/8 he should play a floating role when he straightens up he kills defences.
*Vaeliki will play a bit of 2nds but if he plays to his abitlity he will play nrl, may come into contention if matai moves to lock or robertson or bani don't perform.
*We have one of the biggest stars in the game in B stewart a try scoring freak.
*willow will stay at lock this year but not be there next year with the development of waera-hargraves.
* Rose recovery is important to bench.
The 2008 17.
1. stewart 2. robertson 3. bell 4. matai 5. bani
6. lyon 7. oford
13. williamson 12. stewart 11. watmough
10. kite 9. ballin 8. king

bench: 14. menzies 15. perry 16. curthbertson 17. le strange

fringe: vaealiki, hall, rose(if he recovers), afamasaga, bryant, halden & jason wells

Looks good for 2008. Ballin under pressure to replace the void left by Monas. (in saying that I think he will do a great job). I want to see Beaver in the run on team. Maybe Willow to the bench for utility value?

I think if Jason Wells has a big off season he could surprise a few and play more first grade games then what most anticipate in 08..

Should be interesting to see whether he progresses because there are big raps on him.

could well suprise & solve 6 problems, my big prediction hargraves to be in 17 by the semis.

I think its probably one year too early. If he has half the talent that everyone says he does, he'll be a fantastic long term signing. Whatever happened to that Warriors (Auckland Lions) gun we 'apparently' signed but is nowhere to be seen in our squads?

I like our side of 08, but injuries are the worry, if orford goes down we will struggle with no monas to fill in. Heres hoping Lyon can step up to be the player we brought him here to be.

I agree with Will. Recruitment and retention wise, I hope management has an ace up their sleeve because I think we made a fundamental error losing Groom (perhaps we couldn't help it, I'm not sure about the situations regarding this). But after all, the question remains, who's decent enough to step up to the NRL and replace Ox should he be injured at any stage in 08?
