Premier League/Jim Beam club relationships

Interchange of players is becoming quite common. Obviously players at Newtown, Souths and Ryde/Balmain move up and down but there at least 3 relationships in other clubs:

1 Souths have loaned Brett Finn to Windsor
2 In the last 2 rounds Parramatta have loaned John McKie and Steve Mowbray to Cabramatta
3 Brett Atkinson, Joe Swamy and Brett Rimmer have all played for both Wests and Ourimbah this year. Another 2 Ourimbah players Gordon Graff and Manu Asoava were cut from the Wests squad after last trials.

In other news Laloa Milford has returned to Cabramatta to replace Luke Branighan and with Croft, Djukich, Doyle and Payne back this week the Blues are looking a lot stronger.

Souths deal with Newtown was ended last year when Souths Juniors decided to field a team in the Jim Beam Cup.
The deal with Canterbury which existed last year doesnt appear to exist anymore with no exchange of players between the clubs this year.
Newtown currently have no feeder relationship with any NRL clubs although Cronulla have stated they intend to use Newtown if the proposed State Cup comes into being.

Slightly off topic but another JBC graduate makes his debut this weekend - Dan Holdsworth a five eight with Windsor last season will make his debut for St George Illawarra.

Another JBC graduate is listed to make his debut in NRL this week. Jack Afagasama, who was a benchman with Guildford last year will fill the same role with Parramatta this weekend.

Congratulations to Jack.
He has been called up from Jersey Flegg, where he was a starting second rower and captain, to the NRL.
His permanent move to the forwards has been successful with this limiting his error rate which was fairly high when playing in the centers with Guildford.
Weller Huaraki who played winger with Guildford last year is also now with the Parramatta flegg team, making a huge positional change from the flanks to the front row.

The phantom siren is a mate of Milford so he was at Cabra on sunday. The siren made his move about 15 seconds before half time. I didnt notice if it was last tackle but the ref certainly had his arm in the air.

Joe Williams had a satisfactory debut for Souths in the NRL last night. He was playing Jim Beam 3 weeks ago. Wes Tillott has also been in the Souths side for the last few weeks. He was one of Erina's best players in Jim Beam last year.

Balmain flegg half Damien Braumann has been playing for Ryde-Eastwood since they lost Kusto. After watching a fantastic game of Jersey flegg on Sunday followed by a VERY average JB Cup game I'm trying to work out if this should be viewed as a promotion or a demotion for the kid.

There is a very large range of standards in Jim Beam Cup eg a few weeks ago Windsor had to play the Bulls and they had several injuries so they brought in 3 guys from the Penrith Flegg and they got flogged 68-24. Nathan Barnes has since indicated that he will not repeat that tactic.

Ryde's Jim Beam team is weaker than the reserve grade side they fielded in metro cup. There are points restrictions in place and Ryde signed 9 players from St Marys the year before JB started. Those guys are all gone and the club has virtually no loyalty discounts hence they have to field a team of nevilles.

At latest count 13 guys have gone from metro/Jim Beam to NRL in the past 3 years so despite that fact that Ryde will be down the bottom of the table for the next 4 or 5 years the games will still be worth watching when the top sides clash.

Ryde's biggest mistake was failing to apply for entry in the Premier League when they had the chance. They would have had $400k to spend on players instead of $150k and no points restriction. Instead they are doomed to mediocrity for years to come.

Yeah thats a fair point - I don't know why they didn't because they certainly have the cash.

I feel sorry for a few of their players who really do put in - I really like what I've seen of their fullback massey and Danny Brown is class but as for most of the rest...

Ryde's sponsorship of Balmain at least gets them involved with PL. I think the current arrangement works well.

The Hawks are one of the bigger clubs in JBC. They need to stick it out at that level for the credibility of the JBC. I think they can have a future in JBC. The points in my opinion should be adjusted now that Flegg is full time. Anyway, the pyramid sturcture created by the Hawks and Tigers should provide for a healthy Hawks down the track.
