Premier League hits airwaves

It’s almost finals time in the NSWRL VB Premier League and rugby league fans across Sydney can now tune in to the action on 2SER 107.3FM.

The NSWRL is pleased to announce that Radio 2SER and its broadcast team of Darren Flynn, Mark Paixao and Brendan J Davies will provide all the thrills of the coming weeks’ action across Sydney’s airwaves.

The 2SER weekly coverage will kick off at 3pm this Saturday at Leichhardt Oval with a call of the Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Tigers v Canberra Raiders match, on a day which doubles as junior league grand final day.

Further scheduling on 2SER 107.3FM Radio is as follows:

Saturday August 11th - Balmain Ryde Eastwood v. Canberra @ Leichhardt Oval

Saturday August 18th - North Sydney v. Manly @ NSO

Saturday August 25th - Newtownv. Penrith @ Henson Park

Saturday Sept 1st - TBA

It is great to see North Sydney has a home game that is being broadcast. I will have to work out a way to tape their coverage so i can listen to it when i get home from the game.

Yeah - that's great news for the PL and the clubs involved that struggle for recognition.

We, the PL fans, have to make sure that 2SER management are aware of how good it'll be to have the footy on the radio, as I believe that this is only a trial.

The clubs were asked to chip in a grand to cover the costs ($600/hr for the radio time) in return for coverage of a home game. Expect the Maggies will probably host the last game although we haven't yet agreed to put in the dough and we'd need to change from the scheduled Friday night.

Good initiative and lets hope plenty of people tune in.

I listened to the call today and for a first call these fellas sounded very very good. They must have has some technical difficulties early as they missed the first 8 minutes of the game but after that they gave a very accurate and entertaining call.

The commentary team of Darren and Mark know their stuff and were quite knowledgable of the ins and outs of the premier league and the other NSWRL competitions. I especially appreciated the score updates from Henson Park being a bluebags supporter.

The way I see it is they can only get better and congratulations to 2SER and NSWRL for making this happen. I will be listening again next Saturday for Manly vs North Sydney.

But this saturday I will be working at Bathurst and hence wont hear the call again !
