Premier League Draw with Balmain
9 April 2004
The Dragons had to settle for a 24-all draw with Balmain after the Tigers scored a penalty goal in the final minute of a drama-filled Premier League Good Friday thriller at Leichardt Oval today.
The Dragons led 10-0 at half-time and held on to a slim 24-22 lead with 1min to go before the Tigers scored in front of the post after referee Jared Maxwell ruled illegal interference by St George Illwarra on a Balmain kick. At least one Dragon was not happy with the call, with Willie Leyshon sent off for telling Maxwell what he thought of the decision.
Leyshon was the second Dragon to receive marching orders, with Corey Payne leaving his side one man short 15 minutes after half-time.
On a positive note, Dragons captain Aaron Gorrell kicked well to otch up five goals, while Wes Naiqama kicked another and scored a try. Clint Greenshields and Tony Jensen were the other tryscorers.
In Jersey Flegg, St George beat Balmain 28-22, scoring seven tries to four, but failing to kick all eight attempts at goal.
Edwin Asotasi scored a hat-trick of tries, Etu Uaisele scored two tries and Shaun Vidito and Ricky Lang added one each.
