Promotion / Relegation

Tell me why it can work in English soccer but not here?

Set eligibility criteria which NSW Cup or Qld Cup sides must meet to qualify for potential promotion. Once met, they're in the game. (Yeah we all know the Davies Park toilets preclude Souths forever). Win the premiership, win the National Championship, and Newcastle will find themselves in the NSW Cup a year later with the mighty Dolphins stepping up.

Generous salary cap concessions to the new kids on the block. Perhaps the NRL administers the first year. They run two clubs already.....

Sponsorship could be pre-arranged for club X and in place at end of season instead of a mad scramble.

How would players be freed up so it's not a rag-tag side of off-contracts and rejects though?

Surely at worst you'd have the cash to attract a big name or two. When entrenched it might even be an incentive to sign shorter contracts knowing the cash splash every season by the newbies?

It would enliven the game and make Round 26 as important for 15th and 16th as 1st and 2nd.

Oh and watch 2nd tier sides try to buy a premiership to qualify! That would be funny. Put some more stars in the Cups. Get the crowds back.

Hilarious posts Redcliffe and Easts have been trying to buy a Q Cup premiership for 10 years and failed. Imagine the two going mad trying to get an NRL gig!!

The difference between QCup & NRL is too big a jump in regards to facilities & money

Other issue is all the feeder club arrangements!!

Pre-qualification must address these criteria. Redcliffe, Easts, and various other clubs could work towards meeting minimum criteria. Easts could play out of Lang Park. Redcliffe are a second grandstand away from NRL standard. Souths Logan have historic urinals with a view of the game.
