Ryan:

Ignoring the fact that he struggled today to recognise he had to catch the ball, he is simply too slow to be on our wing. There's no point me listing the trys he missed by being too slow, just to mention there were heaps.

Moltzen:

Good steppy talent, but just not a centre. One of those classic players for whom there isn't really a role. Luckily Collis is to come back.

Please remove them from our team.

Even Peni would be better with all his drop ball as he could make the most of being put into space.

Morris: Average and boring. We'll have to put up with him as he is probably the best option, but if we had a half and a winger, we'd be right up there.

Westie,

Give them time, first hit out, 30 degrees.

Give them a chance to get their timing, that's what trials are for.

I hope we can make an impact this year.

We can take all year if we like, but Morris in the halves is just plain wrong. While he's there the pressure on Benji will be enormous. Morris has nothing and is only suited to being thrown on when Robbie need s arest.

If we don't have better option in the club, I'm the Sultan of Brunei. Hell, I'd have Moltzen in there without hesitation.

westie how the hell cant u mention mcdonnell? surely even you have to admit he was terrible and gallant played all over him. mcdonnell was probably the worst player on the field.

he was out of position giving away a 40/20. fell over when contesting a grubber, it was a miracle souths didnt score, and was never there backing up the offload. its a complete and utter joke if this bloke gets the job ahead of gallant.

ryan is very slow, would be one of the slower wingers in the comp, however he is very good at everything else, id like to see him get a run at center while collis is out. he bombed at least 2 certain tries today, however the cut out from benji wasnt his fault, the pass was way ahead of him and forward (i was directly in line with it)

moltzen is average, never seen the fuss around him, certainly not as a center. he stuffed at least two tries today aswell. play him at 5/8 or not at all, preferably the latter.

morris - what can be said that hasnt already been said? laid on a nice pass for moltzens try (which looked forward imo) however blew another two by not passing it quick enough. the bloke isnt and never will be a half. he is a bench hooker at best.

halatau isnt a hooker. a 15 meter run on the fourth tackle after 3 big hit ups doesnt make you a good dummy half. his service is terrible and he has no vivsion or kicking game. seriously he bloke would probably kill it in england but if we are to be successfull he cant be in our top 17. on an aside note nathan waters looked bloody good at hooker, ryan carr didnt dissapoint either.

Ryan: Not the fastest winger, but it's not about pace, more about how you use it. Watch the try he set up for Benji against the Dragons at WIN last year, had 4 blokes in front of him, and managed to weave his way around without losing any pace (something McDonnell struggles with) and beat 3 before drawing the last to send Benji away. A def starter for me.

Moltzen: I did like what I saw from him at the end of last year, especially against the Titans in the last game where he ran some beautiful lines. I wouldn't mind him in the side, looked more potent than Collis did towards the back end of the year.

Morris: A handy player, at HOOKER, not for us, but could be handy elsewhere.

On Marshall at halfback, I heard he did a lot of sideways stuff. Marshall is not a halfback, never has been, never will be. Marshall is a player who you give him 1 play per set to run, as he is an instinct player, but when there is nothing on he tends to go sideways. Because of this, he can't run the show for a team at NRL level. Get him back in the 6.

It's all well and good that Ryan set up one try all year for Benji by cutting inside, but a proper winger would have just run down the field and scored. He took that inside flick from Benji and was in plenty of space, had to cut back inside the chasers and was tackled with ease. Certainly not fit to lick the boots of Tuiaki and Richards who both show how wingers score trys.

From what I saw (and I wasn't watching very closely), McDonnell was boring and average like most of the side. He did look a bit bigger and "tougher" as would be expected while he fills out. His main issue at the moment is that he is too small and not first grade ready.

Gallant, as I have said before, carries his weight better at this stage and is definitely above McDonnell. I just think he's already just about reached his peak. I also think we would have done better all last year if he'd played, as his style of bursting up the middle would have suited our sh*tty attack well. See the dogs game.

How about we start that Josh Lewis guy at 1/2 and put Benji back at 5/8.

Because putting a halfback in the 7 isn't Sheens' style, he'd rather fiddle and fart around with utility players, 5/8s and hookers until someone fits the bill, so everyone can call it a masterstroke.

I like Lewis, but he was kicking the ball backwards and other rubbish yesterday. To force Sheens' hand, he needs to be outstanding, not awful.

Yeah it sounds like Morris is going to get the 6 jersey

I'd rather Fulton at 6 and Morris at lock. Atleast then they should actually run off Fulton abit more.

I completely disagree about Beau Ryan, sure he dropped 3 balls today but like it was said it was a trial, first game of the year and it was dam hot. He is quick enough but more then that he is evasive, he just needs to learn to run STRAIGHT instead if sideways.

Agree about Moltzen, he is a good player but not up to the standard of playing centres in the NRL just yet.

Benji has a lot of potential at halfback, he was 10 times better v Rabbits then anby game Morris has played there in the last 3 years.... BM needs to stay at the #7 all year long no matter what and he will do a dam good job of it, better then JM anyways.

Morris was well Morris, he trys 110% all game... but in the end there is no natural talent there. Least he can defend though.

Beau Ryan isn't, never has been, and never will be quick enough to be a first grade winger. I like him at right centre in PL. But that's about it. It's got nothing to do with dropped balls in the first trial of the season. He's just not physically capable. Peni has errors in his game (ask Newtown) but he's quick, big and strong. Simple selection.

Luke Covell is a pretty handy first grade winger is he not???

On the end of a sharks backline that plays possesion footy and attacks from inside the 20, a bloke with his size, leap, step and football head makes a half decent winger. And he's not THAT slow.

We play football from distance, with a game plan requiring fast wingers. Why then we have a dude who is probably the slowest winger in the NRL, i'm not sure.
