PS3 Japanese version?

I know this should probably be in the computers section BUT as this forum is to ask questions I have a question about the PS3.

Ok my parents knew I wanted a PS3 for my birthday so they were going to help me buy it (split the cost 50/50). They are not the most technical people but as a suprise they decided to see if my sister could buy one for me whilst she was holidaying in Japan. So she did and my sister told me last night that she brought one and was coming home with it this weekend but to act suprised. My problem is know PS3 games are region free but what about DVD's and Blue Rays??? Will I still be able to use that here in Australia?

DVD's are Blu-rays are region coded. But with Blu-rays, at least according to Wikipedia, Japan is in the same reigon code as North America so you could still get movies from there but I'd check for a more reliable source beforehand.

So both a region coded?? So if wanted to use it I'd need to get Blue Ray's from Region 1 areas (Japan/US) and DVD's from region 2 (i think).

I'd prefer to use ones from here so how would I go about trying to sell the Japanese one? My sister can't return it because I can't contact her and she is leaving tonight. I think my sister said she bought the 60GB one for $600AU so if I sold it here in Aus would I get that back?
