The best apology would be a win next week.

Yes, but I'll settle for a disciplined display with no brain explosions and no stupid penalties. Call it losing culture if you like but I'd rather have that than win while playing such an ugly game. At least we'd have a base to build on.

That said, I do believe that discipline = fewer penalties = more possession = much more chance of winning.

Sorry Dean.
better fitness=better discipline=fewer penalties=more posession=more chance of winning.

I don't know if they are training too much or not enough.
They seem to have heavy feet.

the reason I say that is many years ago I played in a GF of which we were the first ones to get in. So we had the week off whilst the last semi was played.
Our coach thought that we needed to be flogged for the 2 weeks with 800's & 440's leading up to the GF.
the other team came out in the GF & got all the posession in the first 20 & we were farged. I mean exhausted. I couldna give a f**k if we lost I just wanted to get off knowing I had nothing to offer except for cramps.

whilst i agree with you reefy about fitness as evidenced by our poor showing in every second half this year it must be pointed out that we are conceding penalties early in the game when one wouldnt expect fitness to be an issue

for example isemonger first tackle in the souths game

penalties were 6-2 only mid way through the first half

i dont tie discipline to fitness as much as you based on these figures

Fitness is important, for sure, and if you're off the pace you give away more penalties. But there are also the stupid, needless penalties, of which Bird's effort was only the most extreme version.

I'm not looking for a nil penalty count, just for a professional effort the fans can be proud of. You know, the type of thing Mr Lang used to give us.

If you have a look at the Roosters you will see they are all doing the same things as the Sharks players. To a degree. They put their arms in the ruck, their knees, they grab legs, they flop they do it all. They also get back 11 metres. Even though they leave a second early, but thats another thread altogether.
the Sharks aren'tfit enoguh in the first minute or the 80th.
they need to be fitter to do these things better.
Everybody fights in the ruck. The Sharks just do it poorly.

I know there are some blatant ones but there are also blatant ones from the Roosters too & they also get penalised. If you contest the ruck, you will have to concede some penalties because the attacking player will win the contest.
Of our 15 penalties at least 4, 2 each for Stevo & Nutley were very marginal & executed poorly.
Thats Eleven. Birds nonsense Thats 10. 2 high shots thats 8.
I really think Nutley should try to have a few penalty free games though. But that is hard for him because he is probably the best "rucker" we have.

Are u kidding reefy, Nutley ! He has cost so many penalties , so now the refs just go at him. That leg pull would be enough to see him in PL for a few weeks under any other coach! As for Bird I think the rest will make him a better player. I dont like the idea that the club will penalise him as well . We dont need that , like Rodgers says "he not a serial offender". I would also bring through some of the younger forwards Newton, Williams and Galloway play them every week . Reasons . We need faster forwards than Beattie. and ones that can be trained better than Nuts not give away penalties. Ok give Atkien a go at 5/8 and get Vargna into the centre. Franze needs to work on his speed in PL . Ive got the bike ot the back!

thats all well and good reefy

still does not count for the backchatting and the first set of six penalties that is usually a high shot

How many penalties were there for backchat?

& yes Carina, Nutley is our best Rucker. He slows the play the ball down very well on most occassions. he is our best at slowing the ruck or contesting the ruck whatever you want to call it. Stevo is our other best, but that is purely because of his frame.

Some of those penalties were absolutely comical.

Steven's flop as Archer said was a week late. It's the first time I've ever agreed with Archer.

Nutley thought the Souths player was a wheelbarrow, and tried to wheel him into the in goal.

Beattie tried to pluck the leg off one poor Souths player, as it is was a wishbone on a chicken. Blatant keystone cop type stuff.

I'll settle for good go forward, no dropped balls and no penalties of the first few sets. Some astute offlaods, and shifts to the three quarters, would be nice. I hope they play like they did against the Dogs for the first fifteen minutes, and Manly for the first 5 minutes of the second half.
