Punishment for poor nines squads

unforgiven

It's not fair that some clubs can recognise that people have put a lot of money into this in hopes of growing the game and send over decent squads and risk injury while others think they're above adhering to the criteria. You can't have some clubs going to the effort to promote the game and others only caring for their own interests.

Hopes of growing the game, lol. The people who put a lot of money in this are hoping to make a large wad of cash.

You know that money and growth aren't mutually exclusive right? I don't think anyone could give a toss whether they've put so much money into promoting this for the game or their own pockets but it has the same outcome.

Well don't make out that these people put the money into to grow the game because that is not true. You made out the clubs were letting these people down, I don't care about these people as they are in this for themselves and not the game.

no body cares about the 9's they should get rid of it
Yeah let's pretend no one cares about a tournament that brings in 100,000 people over 2 days, and has a $2.3m prize pool.

Let's go play 80 minute trial games in the bush in front of 200 people instead.

Show me which trial had 200 people and I might listen to your argument

f**k, the O/P and some posters on here should get a life.

As in any game, trial or 9s, a club can pick whoever they like within the rules and finances of the comp.
You basically just made our argument for us you idiot...

A club can pick whoever they like within the rules and finances of the comp.

Which is exactly what we're asking them to do... But some clubs aren't even doing that... Which is why we're asking if a punishment will be needed.

For starters I really doubt you'd have any idea who every party involved in putting this together is much less all of their motives. Secondly I never said they were letting these people down. I do however believe some clubs are letting the game and its chance to showcase its talent down.

I'm certainly not saying clubs need to send over all of their stars but if this concept is to continue then at the very least each should have to abide by the criteria. It really isn't difficult to send over 12 firstgrade eligible players including one "star". People paying good money to watch it (espeically those flying from Australia) deserve at the very least to see some recognisable names.

And Oikee... Please don't spam this thread..

Shoot me for being passionate.

Ok, here is a good punishment.
Keep the prize money rising. It should have hit 3 million this year. So over 5 years they should have reached about 5 million.
Prize money for the winner, second & third.
best try, 1st second & third.
Best player. same again, 1st second & third. And i would like to see this prize money increase to 1 million.
You dont want my ideas,. Is that span. Dont have a opinion. ?

I see that Brisbane and Melbourne are already trying to steal the nines away from Auckland. And again, my idea of playing a 3 weekend event to always start in Auckland, then a shared two year rotation event for Sydney and Brisbane (for the second weekend), and a 3 year event for Melbourne Adelaide and Perth (on the third weekend) would solve this problem.
The event does not become stale, and we have a event to sell to the networks. But hey, you dont want new ideas, like Koukash, a billionaire with passion and ideas. You just want friendlies. Good luck with that.

But hey, it's all spam to you.

Some people care about it. I have no idea why.

Unofficial start to the season - I just wanna see some competitive footy!!

It's true the promoters are out to make $, as is the NRL in the premiership season, ultimately - it's a business now. However, both comps need to promote "the business".

Slightly stronger 9s squads need to be enforced IMO (e.g. 1 player in top 5, 3 in top 10 & 14 in top 25?).

I'd be happier if the Eels didn't send a squad to this mickey mouse crap and concentrated on doing what it takes to make the top 4.

If they have to go for whatever reason (kudos to the promoters for getting this in) then at least minimise the risk by not putting important players in the squad and risking injury.

Ricky Stuart was recently quoted saying all he wanted to get out of 9's was to get everyone back healthy. I fully endorse his attitude. We got bigger problems to worry about than winning mickey mouse comps

Ok I'll make it easy for you. Find one piece of promotion the company promoting this event has done for Rugby League that wasn't directly related to this tournament. Just 1. If you can find it I will concede that they are doing this to grow the game. If you can't find it, I will just have to continue to believe that they are doing this to line their own pockets.

I like the 9s. Highly enjoyable to watch without the pressure of really caring how your own side goes.

So you don't care how your side goes, but are happy to risk your star players?

I actually enjoy the 9's but think it needs to stand on its own merits and not be reliant on the stars of the game competing. Similar to what the Big Bash has had to do without the Australian players. I actually see the use of former players as similar to the international imports in the BBL.

You are the idiot, you south sea island pommy. Worrying about a weekends 9s tourney. Half the crowd go to get on the soup and party, a weekend away.

If there are rules than let the tournament officials invoke the agreed punishment. Not YOU.

As said, get a life.

I wonder how many players put their hands up and want to play.

I Reckon it would surprise a few.
