Question about West Papua

is rugby league popular and played in the Indonesian Provence of West Papua?

I assume they'd form part of the Indonesian Rugby League (well aside from the West Papua protest team).

They are nuts for soccer in my experience.

I don't believe there are any active competitions or teams in West Papua.

I have heard that there was once teams around Bupil and Jayapura in around the late 90s, but it's near impossible to find any evidence of it.

Rugby League is definitely not as strong the closer you get to the border. Areas like Vanimo in PNG haven't had a competition for over a decade.
