Who was the old shadow boxing psycho that was at every Balmain game?

Laurie someone.

He threw a punch at me in 1984.

What a top old bloke he was. Used to love seeing him at the games.

I was at a Steelers/Tigers game at Leichhardt and the Tigs gave us a hiding. I said something smartarsey to him (can't remember what) and he took a swing at me.

He missed because he was pissed.

Gotta admire his dedication though.

A champion bloke. As I grew up living a stone's throw from the oval and would regularly head up there after school to watch the boys train, would always bump into Laurie. Knew most of us and would always ask how we were going and stuff.

I used to live in the Blue Mtns and caught the train to work in Sydney. Often sat with a group that included Laurie- he was a top bloke. I'm sure that he'd have bled black and gold. As a die-hard Magpie's supporter we used to have some good yarns- apart from Balmain, he loved rugby league.

I was amazed in the depth of winter in the Mtns- there he would be in his singlet. I'll always remember him.

RIP Laurie.

Sadly, Laurie Nichols passed away in 2000, four days before Wests Tigers first ever game. I thought of him when we won the grand final in 2005.
