Firstly, I must congratulate Mario and Vodka on the excellent feedback and dialogue they have provided on this forum and others about the upcoming game. The game is looking as though it will be a cracker
On http://www.trublueentertainment.com/features, it states that the RL game will have hidden features to unlock. Will there be any wildcard teams?
In the game Jonah Lomu Rugby, if you completed the various territories cups, you could unlock access to three super teams:
* The British and Irish Lions
* The Barbarians
* The World XV
If you completed that tournament, this would give access to three further teams:
* Rage All Stars
* Codemasters XV
* Team Lomu
The lineup for Rage All Stars featured the programmers and developers of JLR, and the team probably would have defeated any other in JLR - if you had been able to play them against anyone other than Team Lomu or the Codies! It seemed the programmers had fun parodying or exaggerating their own skills. The fullback Trevor Williams was a giant 3m tall 1m wide monolith, the right winger Mather probably 50cm tall but far pacier anyone else, the left winger Steve Williams was normal size, still fast but a fending powerhouse and the fly half could kick 70m in general play.
The Codies were also great fun to play as well.
So my question is: are we going to see any fun/wildcard teams in the NRL game? e.g.
* Sidhe All Stars
* the HES Super XIII
* the Gamewizz XIII
or, for example,
* Team Johns (where you can play a team with Andrew Johns from position 1 to 13)
I'm sure the programmers and the distributors could have a lot of fun here
Also, a columnist in British magazine Rugby League World reported in its September 2003 edition that the RFL missed the deadline of September 1 to acquiring a licence for its teams to be represented in the Rugby League game because they failed to get back to HES/Sidhe in time. if this is true, then it's a shame because it would have been awesome to see the English Super League teams and British rep teams (e.g. Lancashire, Yorkshire, the Home Nations and Great Britain Lions) take on NRL teams. Hopefully the RFL and HES/Sidhe can come to an agreement in time for the next edition of the game - RL 2004 ;-)
If there are going to be 35 teams represented in the game, who is going to fill the void of the Super League teams? If there are:
* 15 NRL franchises represented
* City Origin and Country Origin teams from NSW (2)
* State of Origin the NSW Blues and QLD Maroons (2)
* Test teams the Australian Kangaroos & New Zealand Kiwis (2)
That makes 21 teams - which other teams will be included to make up the 35? it would be cool to see some of the national team entrants from the RLIF World Sevens, such as
* Toa Samoa
* Fiji Bati
* Mate Ma'a Tonga
* Russian Bears
* France Chanticleers
* PNG Kumuls
* NASCA Aboriginals
Even teams from the World Sevens Qualifiers could be added, such as:
Aotearoa Maori, USA Tomahawks, Italy, Japan, American Samoa, Newtown Jets & one of NSW Country/North Sydney Bears/Coogee Dolphins.
Any thoughts?
