Rabbitohs and Maguire part ways

I wish all the best to Madge in his future endeavours as he has demonstrated his coaching pedigree by delivering a well deserved 21st premiership for the pride of the league.

In saying that it is time for Souths to move forward. The best way Souths can move forward is to look back. To look back over a very proud and distinguished history. To never forget yesterday and the heroes that were part of it.

With this in mind I would like to propose a campaign that will bring back the coach best positioned to usher in the next golden age of the South Sydney Rabbitohs Rugby League Football Club.

That coach is Paul Langmack. Surely there is no debate on this? Paul left Souths last time before his grand vision could come to pass. It is time to right that wrong and...

#BringBackLangmack

Spread the word.

I don't know which Super League club will be after a new coach. They all seem happy and there is no vacancy at this time. More likely that Michael McGuire will become an assistant coach to Geoff Toovey at Bradford Bulls in the British part timers' League 1 (3rd division).
Bradford can't afford to buy a cup of coffee at ASDA let alone two NRL top line coaches.

They've all but consigned themselves to the fact they cannot afford Toovey next year.

Maguire has been linked with Warrington

Warrington would make sense. Tony Smith can't be in a safe position after such a dismal season in the wake of almost winning both the Challenge Cup and the premiership last year.

Madge comes across as a Ricky Stuart type of coach, in that he is too intense to stick at a single club for the long haul. He is a better coach than Sticky though.

You'd have to think there are a good half dozen NRL coaches getting a little nervous with Madge now on the market. Penrith, Tigers, Titans, Dragons, Bulldogs, and Warriors are mad if they aren't making inquiries.

I wouldn't bet a cent on it actually happening, but he'd probably be the perfect coach to sort out the peaheart warriors - provided he had full control to punt any weakling player that can't take the heat

People who shout and scream get a reaction but it just becomes white noise and loses effect after a while.

I don't think Madge is a crap coach but I thought his time was up last off season and he did nothing to convince me otherwise this season.
Sure there's problems with the roster but he has to shoulder some of the blame and you can't sack players unfortunately.
I'm sure he will have success elsewhere but it was a needed change for both the club and the man.

I find it hard to believe Tigers would be looking for a new coach, after what 22 games?

We are either gonna scrape into the 8 or do really really poor next season. I don't see an inbetween...

The young guys who Madge has nurtured could really be pissed off and I would y be shocked if Madge at the Titans snares some of our young talent....

Anyhow 3 cheers for Madge..........

I will never forget what he has done for us and I will remember it forever.....

Yep, which is why despite Bellamy's carry on in the coaches box and at halftime, you know during the week at training the bloke obviously has a lot more going on in order for players to keep responding to him after so many years at the storm.

I agree they should have parted ways last year. Once Burgess's giant money deal was signed that was the death knell for Souths in 2017 IMO. No team can carry a prop on that sort of money.

As for the tigers, it doesn't matter how long the current coach has been there. It only matters that a genuinely good coach has come onto the market. I'd expect them to at least complete their due diligence investigating the idea

Why would the Tigers make enquiries? Cleary has been coaching a side that will bear next to no resemblance to the squad he has next year.

I'd consider Maquire to be in the top 4 or 5 coaches in the league. Any team whose coach isn't on that list should be at least entertaining the idea of bringing him on board.

Cleary no doubt deserves a chance, and I'm sure he'll get it. Just saying that top line coaches with proven records of success are extremely rare. So when one hits the market, pretty much all clubs would take notice. Any coach whose side finished out of the 8 (and even a couple in it) would be probably contacting their CEO today seeking assurances on their position.
