Dodd showed in the NSW Cup game that he is too good for NSW Cup. Souths have to give him a go in the NRL soon. He played on the left on the weekend so he can take Cody's spot and play with Humphreys
Well, he did a few good things but was still outplayed by his opposite and we lost the game quite convincingly. So, I think he needs to show a fair bit more than that and do it consistently.

Meanwhile Cody Walker is far from finished, is now our new captain while Murray is out and stepped up to get us a crucial try to keep us in the game where we eventually won. Wayne wants him to go around again next year too and I see no reason why not. He is an elite and exceptional talent still at his current age and still miles ahead of Dodd who is not a 5/8. Humphreys is miles ahead of Dodd already as a halfback.

Asked if he fears it could be a risky signing for Souths, Bennett said: “If those were issues for me, I wouldn’t have asked the club to sign him.

“I am confident I am buying a bloke who is ready to play some good football.

“And I am confident he is coming to a good club where whatever his past has been it won’t be an issue.”

Asked why he thinks he can get the best out of Smith when Trent Robinson couldn’t, Bennett answered it this way: “I don’t presume that I can get the best out of him.

“He has to get the best out of himself. I can’t do that.

“I just like what he brings to a team. I like his energy.”

Bennett also said Smith would not be pigeonholed into playing one position, whether that be dummy half or lock.

“He will play in the forwards, that’s where he will play,” Bennett continued.

“He can play hooker. He can play 13. He can play on an edge.

“I have got no doubt about that.

“So it will strengthen our forward pack.

“And we will find a place for him, from the interchange bench to the starting 13.”

Bennett concedes he was filthy on Smith a few years back when he originally agreed to join the Dolphins before backflipping and signing with the Roosters.

But Bennett says it wasn’t a case of having to forgive Smith.

“I didn’t see any forgiveness in my heart, I just like what he brings,” he said.

“He wanted to go to another club and I can get over what happened.

“We have both moved on.”

There is still every chance Smith will end up at the Rabbitohs this year, although at this stage Bennett will not discuss that.

It’s now up to the two clubs to strike a deal knowing neither the Rabbitohs or the Roosters want to carry the load for the remainder owing on Smith’s current contract.

Dodd was responsible for all 3 of Souths tries. If he had not been playing and Souths had an average NSW Cup half in his place the score would have been 40-6 to the Dragons not 30-18. Dodd showed his kicking game is very good. He at least deserves a shot at the NRL

Cody and Wighton were horrible in the halves last year for Souths which is why Bennett signed Dodd, Humphries and Burns and then Sullivan plus Schuster wants to play halves too. Cody did come up with a key play for the try last week but he was invisible for the other 79 minutes

So far Souths are 2 from 2 after narrow wins vs the teams currently 14th and 15th on the ladder. Nobody wants to change a winning team. But when the losses come questions will be asked and one player whose spot will be questioned is 35 year old Cody unless he plays well in those losses

I don’t know the reason but Ryan Sutton released from dogs, do we look at him for some forward depth or is it an injury issue for his release

Dodd will get a chance in the NRL at some point, but it will take injury or suspension to our current halves to do it. Even then, he'll have stiff competition from Sullivan but I'd like to see him given a chance. Not just yet though.

He's a plodder to start with. If he was happy to sign a 2nd tier contract to join our NSW Cup squad, then maybe. But don't know what the issue is for why he left the Dogs. If it's a chronic injury, then he might be cooked.

Also, what cap we've got left for the NRL squad, which is reported to be $150k, we would be reserving for the possibility of getting Brandon Smith over early if they can do an unlikely deal with the Roosters.

You’d expect him to be better than most players in cup after his playing career in England super league which is a step up from nsw cup the jury is locked at the moment with people wanting him to be a star as most on this forum want but he has to show that he belongs in the nrl as Humphrey has and I truly hope he gets that chance during the season and proves he belongs.

‘He was built like an Adonis at 13’: How youth coach knew Humphreys was destined for top

Directing a young Jamie Humphreys, former coach Adam Dykes used to overhear parents and spectators commenting about the youngster’s ability – and hulking physique.
Dykes, the former Cronulla playmaker, won multiple titles with the De La Salle club in the Shire – perhaps not surprising, considering his side boasted Humphreys, Sharks winger Sam Stonestreet and his own son, Cronulla fullback Kade Dykes.

“When he was 11, 12 and 13, Jamie had a body like a bloody 18-year-old,” Dykes told this masthead. “All the kids from the Shire were these little skinny kids, but here was Jamie, built like an Adonis at 13.”
Stonestreet and Humphreys will go head to head the first time in the NRL on Saturday afternoon, when the unbeaten Bunnies head to PointsBet Stadium to face the Sharks.

“It’s going to be exciting to see Jamie and Sam play,” Dykes said. “Sam was a beach sprinter, he was always fast. Jamie was one of the most talented kids I’ve ever seen.
“The biggest thing with Jamie was he was always super talented, but it was more his determination. He had something under the bonnet not many kids had.
Jamie Humphreys and Sam Stonestreet won multiple premierships as kids with De La Salle.

Jamie Humphreys and Sam Stonestreet won multiple premierships as kids with De La Salle.

“The three of them were in a very good side. They were easy to coach because you only had to tell them something once.
“In terms of Jamie, he just had something in terms of his will and desire. I’d run the water out to him, he was exhausted, but he refused to lose.

“Sam played centre, Jamie played centre, and Kade was five-eighth. Sam was fast, Kade was talented, but Jamie was the star. Everyone in the Shire knew about Jamie Humphreys when he was a young kid.”

Humphreys will wear the Souths No. 7 jersey for the third week, having been the hero against St George Illawarra last weekend when he calmly slotted the winning field-goal from 30 metres out.

Stonestreet, who recalled some hard-fought sprint duels on the beach with Humphreys when they were nippers at Cronulla Surf Club, expected Humphreys’ left boot to send plenty of bombs towards his wing.

“I’ll look for him in the line when I run it back,” Stonestreet said on Tuesday. “We played a lot of games back in the day, won a few comps, and he was a freak back in the day.

“He’s always been stocky, well-mannered, while his family are also awesome people. He’s stepped up playing halfback, and he’s doing well.”

Brandon Smith signs with Rabbitohs, Molo agrees deal to join Dolphins

Humphreys left the Shire when he was 13 and spent five years in England after his father, former Wests Tigers and Manly chief executive Stephen Humphreys, started a new job in London. He returned to Sydney and spent a few years in Manly’s system before joining Souths over the summer.

“I thought he’d progress into a hooker more than a half,” Dykes said. “I still think he’ll end up a really good hooker because he has a great left foot, can ball-play – but that’s not to say he won’t kick arse at halfback.”

Been thinking it for a while but thought it too premature to say it. :D

In fact, a few Pommy players have got homesick and gone back - George Williams quit mid-season a few years ago and went home and he was actually doing quite well for Canberra. Also, Bateman last year just up and left although didn't give up on his contract until a deal was done and now he's at the Cows.

I feel sorry for Doddy as he seems a nice enough chap but he also looks a little over-awed, tends to sit back and not go after the game enough although that might still come. He was sheepish for the first 30 minutes in Cup the other day I thought before finding his feet and doing some good things. The try was simple enough given the poor defence in front of him in that instance but good on him.

You never know. If Humph gets injured and Dodd gets pitchforked in, he could take his chance but I don't see that he has huge upside which is what Cronk was essentially saying.

BREAKING: Brandon Smith is a Bunny. Official announcement later today. Two years. Starting date not set. Watch for an up coming episode of his podcast with James Graham - The Bye Round podcast to see first interview.
@9NewsSyd

However, an early release from the remainder of his contract with the Roosters seems improbable.
Great news!!!
As to your last statement, I respectfully disagree.
Anything is possible, would not be surprised see the Roosters eventually capitulate and let him go early.
