I actually got a job with the company that sells these tickets. I quit after one day. What they do is they have a contract with certain sporting organisations to raise money for them. I know they have the Sydney Swans, Sydney Kings, Cronulla Sharks and Wests Tigers on their books. During the week they go out to shopping centres or street sights and try to sell tickets. They also go to matches and try to sell tickets. The people selling the tickets make something around the $1 mark for every $5 ticket they sell. Part of the rest of the money goes to the company selling the tickets and part of the money also goes to the club. Apparently the clubs make a lot more money through outsourcing this fundraiser then what they do through running it themselves.
Every time I see these people I laugh cause it's a waste of time for them to be selling these tickets. I always remember my day selling these tickets. Got to the city at 7.15, went out to Wentworthville to sell tickets for the Kings. Finally got home at 7.30 that evening. Sold a whole 14 tickets all day. As this was considered my personel best I was given $1.50 per ticket sold. I made a whopping $21 for 12 hours work. I spent more on train travel and lunch then what I earned the whole day.
However I suppose as long as people continue to be gullable enough to work for this company and the clubs that use them make a lot more money through the use of this organisation they will continue to be around.
