Raiders Team Vs Penrith

Powerful forward Neville Costigan has been named in the Raiders starting line-up for this weekend's big clash with the Penrith Panthers at CUA Stadium, with the back rower returning from a one week suspension.

Costigan missed the Raiders 26-0 defeat against the Sharks, and retakes his place in the number eleven jersey, with Ben Jones returning to the interchange.

After making a successful return from injury last weekend Troy Thompson also moves back into the Raiders starting side, with Dane Tilse moving back to the bench.

Josh Miller has been named as an 18th man for the big game against the Panthers, and will come in to the side if Glen Turner fails a fitness test on his hamstring later in the week.

If Tilse is carrying a rib injury why not rest him and promote Thurling. Would rather take the park with 17 fit players. Still there a bound to be the usual late changes, I note Bickerstaff has not been named anywhere again.

Disappointed to see he has stuck with the same backline, was expecting/hoping for a few changes.

I agree re: Tilse.

i hope Turner is out, the guy offers nothing in attack and is too small.

I bet Bickerstaff returns thru PL to regain some fitness before coming into NRL.

A pack with Logan, Costigan and Miller will certainly rattle some cages!

Thurling should be in there over Jones, with Thompson back we have enough workhorses.

Bickerstaff isn't in PL so he must not be right yet.

I'm happy with the side, the forwards look a lot stronger with the inclusion of Thommo and Costigan. When Weyman and Bickers make it back too it will be awesome :D

I dont think Duneman is up to 1st grade he should be back in reserves as we havent got a spot for him,we need to promote more youth to see who has it in them to brake first grade

I would have thought in light of our recent performances, Thurling and maybe Williams would have got a run. Not enough size and too many defensive players in that line up imo.

Thurling shouldn't get in over Jones. Jones's defence has been devestating this year, I've seen nothing from Thurling's performances this year that indicates he is more deserving of a spot. Besides I'd still take Miller over Thurling, I don't have anything against Trev it's just a case of talent coming out our arses. Happy with the side.

I would have Thompson second row with Costigan, Tilse run on.

Bench of Miller, Thurling, TLL and Campese. As simple as that and I think it is a much better side because Campese can cover backrow, the halves and centres. Perfect bench player imo. Withers, Tongue and Costigan can cover hooker ffs.

I dont like how he has got dunemann named before miller in the top 17, its wrong

If we are going to have any chance against penrith we have to unleash some of our forwards, Withers should stick to hooker for the 80min, dunemann can get dropped to premier league.

Four forwards on the bench for the match this week against penrith please Mr Henry.

Thats how I would run the bench also. Added mongrel with Miller and Thurling and still the versatility value of campo. He had a good game against the knights.

I too agree that Campo would be a great option on the bench and we could utilise him the the way Dragons did Shaun Timmins, however I don't have any problems with Dunemann getting a chance to prove himself in firsts. The club has obviously observed some aspect of his game that will be useful to us, otherwise that wouldn't have dragged him all the way from England.

Canberra Raiders coach Neil Henry has called on his young play-makers to take charge against the Penrith Panthers on Saturday night, but five-eighth Todd Carney might not be available to accept the challenge.

Raiders coach Neil Henry yesterday named a squad of 18 to prepare for Saturday's clash at Penrith, but a third of the team is battling to overcome injury.

Carney and backrower Glen Turner are both in serious doubt, Carney with a torn quadricep and Turner with a strained hamstring.

Centre Phil Graham (neck), prop Scott Logan (neck), utility Andrew Dunemann (knee) and prop Josh Miller (ribs) must also prove their fitness before the team leaves for Sydney on Friday.

We are f**ked

Penrith at times play with little discipline, and often "switch off" at certain times in a game..if raiders show hunger, desperation and defensive mongrel it could be be enough to bring home the win

**Hopefully i wont get deleted/banned for making this comment about penrith**

You really don't know what Panthers team you're going to get week to week. It could be one that could blow any team off the park, but it could also be one that more or less hands the opposition victory without having to exert too much effort.

What team will run out this Saturday, it's a lottery. But we'll be tagged favourites, which historically in a recent sense is bad for us.
