Raiders young gun charged with DUI

AAP Mon, 20 Sep 2010 12:50:08

Young Canberra Raiders halfback Michael Picker has been charged by police after being involved in a car crash while allegedly drink driving.

The 21-year-old former Toyota Cup star, who is yet to make his NRL debut, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a single motor vehicle accident on Gundaroo Road in Gunning on Saturday night.

Picker, the younger brother of Raiders second-rower Joe Picker, is in the frame for a first grade call-up in 2011 following the long-term knee injury to star five-eighth Terry Campese.

Campese requires a reconstruction on his left knee which was injured in the closing stages of Friday night's semi-final loss to Wests Tigers.

And young Picker had been thrown up as an option as Campese undergoes the nine-month recovery process.

Raiders chief executive Don Furner said the Raiders were relieved that Michael had not been injured and that no one else was hurt in the accident.

"Thankfully Michael has not been seriously hurt in this accident and importantly no one else has been hurt either," Furner said.

"The Raiders will allow the court process to run its course before we decide on any further action."

Picker will face Yass court on October 5.

I really cannot fathom why these types of behavioural issues seem to be a recurring issue at some clubs, silly silly kid.

I hear its a traditional thing for the raiders.
Every year, a young gun goes and does something crazy under the wheel.
I'm predicting the Raiders bus to be hijacked by another young gun and made to do wheelies in the middle of the freeway for 2011.
