Get the Wahs! Rotorua dreams of Warriors return after seven-year absence
The New Zealand Warriors have not played in Rotorua since 2020 - and won't in 2026 either.
A few interesting tid bits in this article. Firstly the news that both the Men's and Women's teams will play warm up games.![]()
Busy 2026 ahead for Fiji rugby league | Fiji Sun
“The availability of the NRL players to join Bati during Pacific Championship was a challenge but we are grateful that some have confirmed their availability for the Rugby league world cup,” he said.fijisun.com.fj
I saw that myself and would suggest it is most likely a team or teams based on ethnic lines rather than anything based out of India. Especially with there being a large Indian descent-based population in Fiji. Good to see though and it all helps with spreading the game. But most interesting for me was this:
“We also have the Indian Rugby League Federation Partnership (U19 Men).”
I'd love to know more of what this partnership entails.
The Indian Rugby League Federation / Rugby League Federation of India (they go under both names) is a legitimate RL organisation that has been running in some capacity since 2020, so I think it could be more than just an ex-pat team, especially as the body has been recognised under the Indian Government's new FIT program.I saw that myself and would suggest it is most likely a team or teams based on ethnic lines rather than anything based out of India. Especially with there being a large Indian descent-based population in Fiji. Good to see though and it all helps with spreading the game.
Point no. 2 and 3 clash with each other imo.![]()

Internationals are the pinnacle of almost every sport in the world but for rugby league, they are often an afterthought. That is slowly changing with a more established...www.seriousaboutrl.com
Yeah, I felt the first one has merit, especially as the path for an Irish, Welsh or Scottish play to play against the top teams has been significantly reduced over the past 10 years (England don't play the other home nations, RLWC spots have been reduced for European teams and Scotland & Ireland aren't even eligible to qualify), but the other two don't make sense.Point no. 2 and 3 clash with each other imo.
