Rank Our Best

I just read a post stating a certain player was one of our best which got me thinking........

Who does everyone think are our best players and how would you rank them? So as not to make things too long winded.....who are our best 5?

For me, I rank them like this;

1. BK - Steers us around the park and gives us direction. Our brain on the field you could say!

2. Danny Nutley - Our warhorse. Not affraid to get in and have a go, normally comes up with 40+ tackles a game and give us our go forward.

3. Michael Sullivan - Becoming one of, if not our best attacking weapon and a handy tackler aswell.

4. Jason Stevens - Like Nutley, takes us forward and does the important hard yards.

5. Matt Hilder - Is one of the leagues top taklers to date and becoming handy with the boot. Still quite young too!

Naturally, it takes 17 men working together to win games these days, but I thought it would be intersting to see what you all think.

1. Stevens - Without his go forward we are really really f**ked.

2. Kimmorley - Goes without saying

3. Peachey - The talk, the freakish plays.

4. Sullivan - Our X Factor

5. Hilder - What can't this man do?

Nuts only just missing out.

Hard one, because of form, injuries etc.

But I'll tell you who I think will matter the MOST to us over the next 18 months:

1. BK - leadership, confidence, smart plays and a cool head. Younger than Johns, and really should outplay the injury-prone Joey over the next 2 or 3 seasons. Just has to look out for Gower as the next 'WGP', which is nearly always a 7 or 6.

2. Waltzing Matty Hilder - Our best chance in a long time to once again have a 'marquee' local Shark who actually lives up to the promise of his debut season, and gets better. Just wish he'd settle into one spot though! And I DON'T think that's hooker, despite his recent top shelf efforts.

3. Stevo - As his career winds down, look for his play to get a bit smarter. The old fox in Jase will start sneaking out. And, as the only remaining long-term old bloke (with Peach surely gone) the younger blokes will follow him and work off him more. Will play alot of 'good cop, bad cop' with Nutley.

4. Sullivan - Contract is signed, he's got promises to his late mum to keep, and I think Coach Raper knows how to get the most out of him. Will be the next 'Craig Wing' in seasons 2005-2006, as Craig Wing leaves the bench and matures into Fittler's replacement.

5. I'm going to go with a roughie and name Dave Simmons here, over Phil Bailey. Remember I said 'most important players over the next 18 months? Well, with Peachey unlikely to be around, the time for Simmo to step up is NOW. He has talent, we've seen that, and yes he still has defensive flaws. But these can be worked on, remember he is still very young. Like Hilder last year, he probably didn't expect to see much first grade in his first fair dinkum season.

There you have it, Nostradamus! Like I said, Bails and Simmo were a coin-toss for that 5th spot. But these are the lads I expect to form the core of our side for the next season and a half!

Not in any particular order...

1. BK. The Main man. Without him leading us around we're like a headless chook.

2. Matty Hilder. There is nothing this kid can't do. The complete forward. Works his arse off, puts his body on the line every week, and has not missed a game. His GK is another string in his bow.

3. Nuts. See above, minus the Goal Kicking. An animal.

4. Stevo. Our best forward for as long as he's been with us. Not much else needs to be said about him, because we all know it anyway.

5. Peach. My favourite all-time Shark. Nothing he cannot do. In my mind, one of the greatest, if not the greatest, Aboriginal Fullback to ever play first grade football in Australia.
