Rankings

Does anyone have an idea on how exactly the rankings are calculated?

This is what's published about them

World rankings are based upon:

Results in full international matches only
The current ranking of the opponent
The result of the game and the score
More recent results are given greater weighting

But has anyone been able to work out the numbers, or an approximation?

I think they are due to be updated this week, now that those 3 WCQ matches are done.

As it stands the top 3

Nz 949
Oz 941
Eng 485

I expect england to move up to around 700-750..maybe 800....probably would have nudged 900pts if we'd have won 3-0 against Nz

How its actually worked out is a mystery lol

It's quite simple really. You don't play matches, you drop in the rankings (Cooks, Fiji, PNG).

You play matches (Serbia, Malta, Spain) you move up.

Until test eligible nations are playing upwards of 5 matches a year this can't be taken seriously. Ridiculous outside the top 3-5

How do Morocco even appear on the list seeing as they haven't played a game for years?

yeah.. what it means is that the 4 nations will be vital in seeing who goes on top of the rankings.. It would be good to see Pacific nations play Europe nations and even America's nations so that we could get a truer ranking but it seems money is a stumbling block..

How many games a year does the RLEF ranking system expect a country to play ?
