2007 will they win SL?

1 chris ashton - one of the hottest prospects in world rugby, only just gone 19,he is quite honestly so far, awesome.

2 mark calderwood - fastest in SL,should be given a chance for GB.

3 Nathan McAvoy - Tall centre who helped turn wigans season around with some awesome defense.

4 David Vaealiki - Never performed in SL,a lot to prove to others and himself, still only 26.

5 Pat Richards - another one that under performed last season, suppose to be one of the worlds top wingers, only 24.

6 Trent Barrett - Exellent, must stay injury free.

7 Thomas Leuluai - NZ replacement for Jones, can he be consistent? only 21

8 stuart fielden - after an up and down year for him im sure he will be back to his best next season.

9 mick higham - should of been on the tri nations tour.

10 Ryan Bailey - Tough ex leeds prop, who has played for GB,hard as nails

11 Gareth Hock - Proved his self in the tri nations.

12 bryan fletcher - wigans veteran in the pack who always leads from the front.

13 sean o loughlin - will he find his 2004 form?

-------------------------------------------------------------------

14 iafeta paleaaesina - 24 year old kiwi impact player.

15 shane millard - tough experienced aussie hooker who tackles like a trojan.

16 Harrison Hansen - Young 2nd rower who will be a future NZ test player.

17 phil bailey - EX aussie test player age 28.

Good forwards, average backs. Phil Bailey is, and has never been, a centre but he'd still be a better centre than McAvoy and Vaeliki. Barrett will have his ups and downs as usual and when he is down they will probably struggle, especially as Leuluai can also be quiet. Ashton is probably their best back. Could win Super League but Saints will be clear favourites, even if Lyon and a couple of others are gone. Gidley should be almost as good as Lyon anway. Hull have to be some hope again and Leeds and Bradford are a chance but have had better sides in recent years. Wire will think it's a hope but I doubt it.

Bails had good worth defensively - he held his his own well, and was missed when injured.

But with that came the no ball option to those outside him.

Look what became of Vag's when he came to us - * insert Sharks joke here *

Definately agree with ECT regarding him being a centre.

4, 5, 6, 7 and 17 will be their biggest worries in my book.

Wigan will need their halves at the peak of their abilities. Will wait and see whether Barrett is going to step up week by week or just collect the cheque before rating their chances.

IMO the best centre at the club is Darrell Goulding but his chances of getting a good run under Noble are minimal.

Haven't Vaealiki and Richards been blown out? Even with those two an average SL season is all I can foresee for Wigan.Playoffs and no more.

No Mick Withers in that team?

Looks good on paper, and goodness knows they have the coach with the best experience, but I can't see them winning.

Withers is looking less and less likely to sign.Apparently Wigan are unwilling to register him because of salary cap problems. That's why they haven't announced the signing, even though terms were agreed over four months ago.

There were some rumours around early on that Wigan were looking to offload Vaealiki and/or Richards... Would've given them room under the salary cap I guess, but as yet there's been no other takers forcing Wigan to keep them for now?

Read that there wasn't even one club interested in Vaealiki or Richards, can't say I'm shocked about Vaealiki but Richards, at worst he is a good jumper and can kick goals. Sooner they offload Vaealiki the better though, absolute hack on huge money and Darrell Goulding has alot of potential and showed a bit of it during his small chance last year.

As for that Wigan team, could easily be top 2, very likely top 6 but it's all up to Leuluai and Barrett. They don't have much in the way of outside backs but with Ashton at fullback (assuming Withers doesn't sign) they do have a dangerous player to work with and Richards is always a threat to the opposition from the bomb. Barrett will have to be fit and running the ball alot otherwise they could be in strife.

My source tells me it's a done deal, Wakefield and Quinns also showed interest, and that he'll start training with them on 2nd Jan.

Don't forget this Wigan team may have a points deduction at the start of the season if they are found guilty of breaching the salary cap when they signed Fielden last year.

I was amazed that they had enough room in the cap to sign him, especially after already signing Barrett.

And the players I've heard them linked to (unsubstantiated, of course) for 2008, they'll have to perform a miracle to avoid a fine/deduction.
