The 'academy' was a joke at the end of 2010 when our NYC squad had run last and the best players in the 18-22 age group were these plodders:
Allgood
Brien
Lasalo
Loko
Mitchell
Morgan
Mortimer
O'Hanlon
Seumanufagai
Sio
Terepo
Tupou

By comparison, the 18-22 year olds in the club at the end of 2012 were:

Blair
Broadhurst
Folau
Kelly
Ki
Lavaka
Loko
Makelim
Masinamua
Matterson
Mauala
McGill
Morgan
Mullaney
O'Hanlon
Pauli
Paulo
Pewhairangi
Pritchard
Radradra
Sio
Tanginoa
Terepo
Toutai
Ualesi
Wiliame

Obviously some of those guys are only turning 20 this year so we're yet to see how good they will be. I concede there are some deadshits there too but it's the best players that prove an 'academy', not the worst ones.

Arthur would have been brought in to improve the players individually, like he did at Manly.

The majority of the 'coaching' these days is done by assistants. The head coach provides the long term vision and strategic direction; something that requires communication skills.

Head coach set gameplan and tactics. SK was also crap in that regard

So what does the coaching director do?

I disagree. His tactics suited the (weak) squad we had at the time, and there's been nothing wrong with the tactics used by the Kiwis, which are also different to those used by the 2012 Eels (which were also different to those used by the 2011 Eels).

It was interesting what Brent Taint said when interviewed as he left the field for halftime.

When asked what they had to do to get back into the game he said they needed to get the Eels into an arm wrestle and he was confident they could 'come home with the big boys at the back end'.

As homoerotic as that sounded, it was pretty much spot on with how the second half panned out.

f**k oath he did. He could have just mumbled some shit about completion rates and fixing their defence.

Instead he said they would smash us in the middle and late in the game we wouldn't cope. He was right.

The tactics that got the Kiwis to miss out on the World Cup final? The same Kiwi side who has done f**k all without Bennett being involved?

He certainly was right, the refs really helped them in that regard too! Did we get any penalties for general play? No holding down, no within the 10, hand on the ball? Nothing! Cowboys were perfect apparently!

It's the coach's job to get the right people in. Gibson & Massey, Kearney & Bennett. All the greats had an offsider.

And how would you say the Kiwis' tactics caused them to miss the World Cup final? What should they have done better, tactically?

Actually I noticed we laid all over them in the ruck and didn't get penalised. The past few years we would have been penalised out of the game. It was true when Sticky said the shit teams are marked harder by the refs.
