I reckon three wins guarantees us top eight. Not mathematically but it will certainly get us there.

Two wins will get us enough points but for-and-against would then be a factor and we would miss out. Of course we could mathematically still make it if we win our two games by a combined 100+ but let's be realistic.

NRL Notebook - Melbourne Storm Version
- forward passes are ok from dummy half
- lifting dangerously and wrenching arms are allowable
- Cameron is allowed to chat to the referees whenever he sees fit
- if Craig has a problem with a referee, let us know, we'll sort it out

I'm pretty sure the official Rulebook has been changed for them too.

If the ballboy put the ball on the line do you reckon we would have scored?

I don't go for either team so I'm unbiased in this debate but I think its impossible to say whether the eels would have scored. One thing I do believe, and others have alluded to this, is that the referee did not like the quick tap being taken and so used the ball boy incident as an excuse. I think this is not going to be the end of this saga. I think from now on we could well see clubs hiring junior sprinters as ball kids to so they can put the ball down quicker to restart play. Additionally, we could see clubs telling their ball kids to move slower when it comes to the opposition restarting play. I just feel that this whole incident has opened up a can of worms!

Look, forgetting the debate about the disallowed try, the fact is that our set after the restart was horrid, ending with Hoppa going over the sideline on tackle 3. We stuffed up a good many opportunities in that second half. The game really should have been well and truly wrapped up. Earlier in the year our attack was much more fluent than it is now.

What really annoys me is that, when we don't drop the ball, we are tackled close to the sideline on tackle 5 (even more annoying when Hayne or Sandow is the one that is tackled). It really limits our last tackle play and makes it easier for the defence to prepare.

it would have obviously taken longer if the ballboy had to get to the spot - but vai took another step to the sideline, so I don't think it would have been alot longer .... i doubt we would have scored - I reckon an offside dog would have tackled sandow and got binned .... who knows what happens after that???

I think it is probably a well known condition that clubs have been told about .... I have seen wingers sometimes do shit I think is weird where they seem to intentionally run to the sideline and hover there before throwing the ball to the person taking the tap for no obvious reason - I guess this is that reason

no doubt the quick tap 40/20 rule will get scrapped - though I reckon they will stick to a tap rather than a scrum .... it will then be back in the hands of the referee as to how long everything is held up - and we'll have the usual inconsistency and certain teams getting a better rub of the green

Every second is critical for a quick 40/20 restart. We are going to need the quickest ballboys available who are well drilled in getting the ball into position as quick as possible.

I completely agree with you! I think we will go back to play stopping until everyone is in position. During the Roosters vs Tigers game last night I heard Greg Alexander make an interesting point when he said that he felt that just because a team kicks a 40/20 it doesn't give them the right to score a try straight away and that the defending team should be allowed to set itself to defend the set of 6. I sort of got the feeling that he thought it was a bit of a mistake to change the rules and allow a quick tap to be taken from the 40/20.

haha  soon ball boys may be on the same sort of money as some of the players! Who knows they may also need to be included under the salary cap!
