Injuries have been an issue for us pretty much all season, on top of which I don't think we really ever had a consistent run of players in their preferred or best position, some of which is down to coaching, some of which is down to injury.
The biggest factor I think is we took a chance that the new interpretations around the ruck would suit the body shapes ( smaller, lighter, more mobile ) that we seemingly trained for in the off season. It didn't pan out that way and we were dominated in the wrestle, and then smashed in the go forward.
Which has been compounded by the injury toll. On top of which for what ever reason, our halves have gone from competitive enough last year , to almost f**king clueless this year, our attack has lost all shape and timing, and of course the loss of Semi can't be understated.
In the end, BA has to take some responsibility for our poor performance, where we finished isn't entirely up to him, but it is his call to fix the issues that can be fixed, and I just don't see anything much other than persevering with the same formula, and continuing to not get it right.
In saying that I'm not in the sack BA camp, unless we have a proven and capable replacement to fill his shoes, and I don't think at the moment we are an attractive destination for a coach of quality to come in believing he can turn it around, why would you? Hence I'd give BA next year to finish his contract, at worst we have a shit year ( again ) and he's not renewed, however it does display to an incoming coach that the club has enough patience to allow them the time required to turn us into something that resembles an NRL quality side.
Because any coach looking at us now is gonna believe it'll take a few years to bring around any form of real success, and having some confidence that they will be able to at least see out a two to three year contract before their head is on the chopping block will make us a more attractive proposition.
