Record breaking Roos; Killer Kimmorley

Go you Kangaroos (sorry blacktip)
From Fox Sports:

Wales 4 Australia 76
THE Kangaroos found their form against a weak Wales side in Bridgend today, scoring 13 tries in a record-breaking victory at Brewery Field.

The Australians, who struggled in their opening three matches of their tour, led 36-4 at halftime and went on with the job in the second-half to record their biggest ever victory over league minnows Wales.

Halfback Brett Kimmorley scored two tries and had a hand in six others to ensure he will wear the No.7 jersey in the first Test with Great Britain at Wigan next Saturday.

Second-rower Craig Fitzgibbon was also outstanding, kicking 11 goals - the most ever by an Australian against Wales, surpassing the previous record of nine which was jointly held by Dave Brown and Mick Cronin.

His 22 points also set a mark, edging him past the previous record of 21 which was set by Brown at Wembley in 1933.

Coach Chris Anderson would have been pleased to see the halves combination of Craig Gower and Kimmorley orchestrate the victory.

However, his headaches in the centres continued when Ryan Girdler limped off in the first-half with what looked to be a recurrence of the calf injury he sustained in the grand final.

Details
WALES 4 (K Tassell try) AUSTRALIA 76 (A Minichiello 2, D Buderus 2, B Kimmorley 2, D Lockyer, R Girdler, P Bailey, S Hegarty, C Gower, S Simpson, C Wing tries; C Fitzgibbon 11, C Gower goal)at Brewery Field, Bridgend, Wales. Ref: K Kirkpatrick. Crowd: 3112.

A side note: After a massive crowd of 80,000 to watch Wales play NZ in the rugby at Telstra Stadium...3112 is pretty piss poor if you ask me.

Kimmorley killed it today. He came up with some huge plays(see the one on one strip).

Top game by him and bloody hell don't those commentators love him :?

I watched the game & it was awful.

The crowd was expected.

I think that they woul have all been asleep at that time after being on the pzz since 9am watching the Dragons play the all blacks on TV.
& I include the Welsh Rugby League team in that too!

I reckon there were 4000 Welsh at Town Hall yesterday.

& sorry SS, but any halfback who did not dominate as much as what Kimmorley did against that level of team, should not be even playing.

Any other Kangaroo team would have gotten the ton easy.

No good eh?
Wish I'd seen the game.

Regardless, good to see them back in form.

Just on the Welsh, gee they played well against NZ...I wish they'd won so England or NZ coulda got knocked out in the quarters.

I actually thoroughly enjoyed that union game.
1 because the of the Welshes spirited performance &
2 because of the quality of the NZ backs.

For mine NZ have got this tournament wrapped up. No one else is capable of scoring as many points as them regardless of how many they score.
sounds familiar huh?

Depth & width, depth & width, depth & width, depth & width, depth & width, depth & width.

I didn't see the Wales v Australia league match. It wasn't listed in our TV guide, but that's not the first time that WIN (aka NEIN - deliberate typo) have not advised correct programming to the newspapers. I'm glad though that Noddy and the boys played well. How did Bails go?

I did watch the second half of the Wales v New Zealand RWC match. A great performance from Wales and I think they just ran out of puff. New Zealand were awesome and just steamrolled Wales when it mattered, although their defence looked pretty ordinary at times. It's hard to see anyone toppling them and they look pretty good to my mind to win it.

God help me, Reefy. You can even be negative about a 76 - 4 thrashing in which your club's halfback dominates.

Any other Aussie side would have won by 100. Any other half back would have dominated. Depth and width. Blah Blah Blah.

Well, guess what. Noddy just had a blinder and the Aussies just gained a hell of alot of confidence. Sure it wasn't much of a test, but hey they can believe in themselves again. Maybe all the drinking had united them a little more. Bring on the Poms!!

Oh, BTW Reefy do you want your Great Britain and All Black supporters jerseys in XL, XXL or XXXL? Or should I just get you the same as your Penrith one?

The Wales League Test was on Fox Sports 2 this morning. I missed it. Program says it is replayed at 6pm tonight.
I missed last night's Rugby match but I think the All Blacks are the team to beat in the Rugby World Cup too.

Kimmorley aims to silence critics
By Brent Read
November 3, 2003

AUSTRALIAN halfback Brett Kimmorley believes the Kangaroos did enough against Wales to silence their critics at home – for the time being at least.

"Whatever we do over the next three weeks is what we should worry about," Kimmmorley said today.

"We have had a bit of fun. We have put our head down. Our main goal is to go home in three weeks as a winning team. Whether they bag us between now and then doesn't matter as long as we go home as champs."

The Kangaroos and coach Chris Anderson have come in for their share of criticism after an indifferent start to their tour, with accusations they've spent too much time bonding and not enough training.

But there were signs today the Kangaroos have turned the corner.

Kimmorley was a unanimous choice as man of the match in Australia's 76-4 win in the south of Wales today, but he had an army of helpers.

Five-eighth Craig Gower looked more comfortable, hooker Danny Buderus was outstanding while the entire forward pack lapped up the wet conditions.

"It was a lot better," he said.

"We trained all week on trying to work together. It's hard because the holes seem to be a lot wider but we don't want to throw the ball sideline to sideline.

"I think we're going to be match tougher. The England A game was good for us and today we defended well and I thought we worked really well as a team.

"We have had our good time. The last week we ripped in training-wise. A bit of rhythm is coming and we're just rolling off what everyone is doing.

"Confidence-wise (today) was great for us. Defensively we were really good. We're going to play that tight footy and wear them down. The last two games we have really done that."

Irelevent.
The first Test is what will count.
Obviously the combinations are getting better, good enough to beat the Poms? Time will tell.

I don't think I said he wasn't.
I actually thought I said he was, as he should have been, against such an appauling team.

I saw the game. I had a nightmare(you know coat hangers? Well I was in Big W and some bloke got one of those wood ones and took the metal or whatever it is out of it and stabed me, pulled my heart out and showed me. And he did this all while the police had him in handcuffs for shop lifting  ) and woke up at 4 so I watched it.

Kimmorley had a blinder. Down play the Welsh as much as you want - Kimmorley was great. Villa should never be let near a Australian team again after that game. He was terrible.

I think Bailey has got himself a centre spot and now with Girds out I think its a bigger chance. He had a ok game, with strong runs and helped out in defence. He also had a dead set screamer of a kick to keep the ball in play for a try. Go Bails!

Thanks.
They were the worst team ever to play in an international match.

The Grafton Ghosts would have beaten them by 80!
I'm not a Queenslander! I woke up at four and watched it at 5.

and that Welsh team beat Russia 74 -4 last week. So they are the worst

Hmmm, Kimmorley MVP. Dear, oh, dear. There'll be wailing and gnashing of teeth in Blacktip's house tonight. :(
Hey, Blacktip. If Adrian Morley had a child do you think he'd call him/her Kim?
