Refereeing Standards - S12

I have to say that in the past I've defended referee's when they come up against the invariable criticism you hear every week, mainly from losing sides.

But after seeing Lyndon Bray's performance in the Brumbies vs Stormers match, I think the knockers have a point. Bray was nothing short of abysmal, awarding a try to the Stormers despite the fact the Brumbies had already grounded the ball in-goal, ignoring high tackle after high tackle, and seeming to have no idea what was going on. A classic example:

Owen Finegan "Why did you blow a penalty? Why couldn't we have our line-out up the field?"
Lyndon Bray "Was it your line-out was it?"

Pathetic.

Why would we have been baying for Rathbone's blood? He's one of our star players... that makes no sense.

No, it was the referee we were after. Maybe the Stormers were after Rathbone's blood... never seen one man cop so many head high shots in 10 minutes as he did.

Dead right! OMG, when there are players around there, you are plain stupid if you don't go to the vido ref even if it just takes 2 seconds! That was a shocking performance!

Barry should have been sent off for his second high tackle on Rathbone without the ball! How can both touch judges and the ref miss that :roll:

The Stormers cheated like every South African team does, and on Friday got a bonus point which is beyond a joke! :evil:

Exactly lockyno1. And if the ref goes to the TMO for that alleged try, the Stormers score 5 points less, and no bonus point. If the Brumbies had lost by 5 points or less I'm sure more would have been made of it, but the result is beside the point. It was a TERRIBLE, inexcusable error.

The referee should be sacked. To put it simply, if I stuffed up that bad in the job I'm paid to do, I wouldn't have a job for long.

Are they paid? If I know the RU it wont be much.
