hi guys i know this has nothing to do with footy or the eels, but im thinkin of upgrading to broad band as telstra has lowered there basic entry price to $29.95 for 200 mb per month at 256 kbps.

what i was wondering is how many megs do you guys who have broadband use a month, cause im not sure if i should use this one or the one up from this which is 500 mb for $49.95

Hi hate telstra. Nothing but problems for bigpond email over last 4 months (random delayed delivery of email, though prob I think is fixed). Also, their service is shit as i just moved into an un-cabled area and took them 5 weeks to set up ADSL account and now for last 2 weeks has been down ie no net access (I am work now). Stuffed if I know why. Technicians book a time, cancel, come late....go elsewhere mate.

Usage - 500mb is a good amount for me, I download gaming updates, music and figure the extra is needed.
Hope this helps.

I have Telstra cable. For $60 you get 10Gb per month, and then shaped to 56k after that (although they wont have the software to shape it for several months yet, so it is effectively unlimited at the moment). Had no problems with it so far, but I have my own domain name and email server so I haven't suffered like many other Telstra users with the email fiasco a while back.

As above.

Stay away from Telstra.

I am with Flow, check them out at flow.com.au.

Cheapest in Australia. They're in Sydney. You can get broadbanmd for $25 per month. To find out your current usage, check with your current ISP.

As far as speed goes, if you have a anti virus scanner, be aware that a high speed broadband connection will only download at the rate it can be scanned for viruses, so if you pay for high speed, your virus scanner will not allow you the full advantages of that particular speed.

In other words you may pay for high speed, but not be able to use it.

Much of these and other issues are addressed in hte "Go ahead, ask us anything" forum.
