RELOCATION

The more Cronulla delivers crap performances every week, the more are the chances of being relocated to the Gold coast.
How long can Major sponsor continue to sponsor a football team playing
the way they are.
Who feels the sameway???????????

I would hazard a guess that nobody feels like you.

After 4 games we have 1 win, 1 close game against a top 8 team, 1 poor game & 1 bad game.
last time I looked there was 20 something matches left in the regular season.
All I want to see this year is the combinations grow, improvement in each game & some more purchases to strengthen things up.
This is an important year to stop the slide we were placed on. 12 months from the day the club was officialy placed into full rebuild mode.
we are exactly where we should be because of that.

well said.
If the team improves on last years performance then we are on the upslide. You can't fix all the problems overnight. It takes time for everything to fit together and have the team performing well on a regular basis.
I think people (me included) jumped the gun thinking we would start the season in form and as serious top 8 contenders. Unfortunately it's not going to happen that way. We need to be patient and let the team develop, something which I still hope Raper is capable of doing

A lot of people thought that we'd be top 4 contenders. Deep down I knew we'd struggle but whenever I mentioned that I'd get shouted down. Happens every so often. It's an even comp and we've got a lot of average players. I knew we'd struggle to get into the 8 and I think we will struggle again next year. This is the frustrating bit, being patient and letting the team develop, we did that for 8 years with JL and we laid down and dogged it in 2001. Now we're drifting. I dont know who can fix the rot but I'll be surprised if it's Stuart Raper, particularly with Chris Anderson's team.

Doesnt mean shit about relocation though. The league world learnt a lot about loyalties and tribalism with Souths, Hunter Mariners and the Bears.

1. Souths: you cant just turn away tens of thousands of people from the game and hope they decide to support another team with their hearts and wallets. The league would be very wary of sacrificing all the Sharks fans around here to another sport. I certainly wouldnt take up supporting another team, I'd probably become a lowly union toff.
2. Hunter: you cant expect to create an artificial team and have people support it if there is no passion there
3. Bears: people wont support a relocated team if they feel they deserve their own full time team. The people on the Gold Coast wouldnt want the Cronulla Sharks, they'd want their own GC team.

Actually, not quite right there SS.
the Goldy is full of ex pat supporters from all clubs & the Sharks have a good following up there. Strongaffiliation between the Goldy & Cronulla.
The trials games usually get 10-15k crowds in no matter who is playing.
Thats over 40k just in 4 trials matches.

shadowboxer i reckon the canterbury game was just as much as a worry as the souths game
i complained about the discipline back then and got hammered for being too negative. it was more fashionable to blame the ref! but hey, that's clueless folk for ya.
youre right, the game was more positive but the signs back then were that we'd dropped our bundle

BTR i acknowledge that the sharks have a following on the GC but do you really think they'd want a cronulla team transplanted to that region? it would be much more practical to give them their own start-up franchise. so you dont think there's any parallels there with the bears? i guess you know the area better than most...

Relocation? Are you a St. Geo-Illa supporter General? They should relocate fully to the Gong. Thats where they get all their good juniors from anyway. The Sharks have just re-adopted the name Cronulla-Sutherland and are still pushing for our development. I think relocation is further away than ever.

BTR i live up here and love the sharkies but they are The Cronulla Sutherland Sharks and thats where they belong although if they did relocate I could go see them play every 2nd week. I also beleive the Goldy wouldn't care who came as long as they get a team and that team would become my 2nd team so bring it on

Relocation. They always have a dig about it. Now you are talking about it. I can't help but draw similarities.
