First i've heard of it. But there's no way the Joint-Venture board would even consider it. homebush is the furthest the club will go

This is an intresting topic because the West's Tigers won't be relocating well not any time soon at least anyway - but Balmain have thought about a move in the last few years!

How seriously will the new pokies tax effect the tigers - does anyone know??

How much money do we get from the three leagues clubs now.... I would imagine pretty paltry amounts compared to some clubs....

Pretty serious really. I know all the Balmain members here would've by now recieved the letter from the club outlining the current situation of the club. Pretty much for the sake of the club the move to Telstra could be a life saver in the long run.

Well, if its as serious as you say, and the only plan they have is to play more matches at Telstra, then I really fear for the future of the club.....

You realise that Telstra matches will be a disaster crowd wise don't you??

How long is the deal at Telstra for?? Is Telstra happy losing money on the deal for multiple years??

The NRL needs to come up with another million dollars for each club. They should at least be paying the salary cap. That would take pressure off clubs. Maybe the NRL could re-negotiate the TV rights with channel 9 and Fox now?

I see the players are going to protest next month over the poker machine tax but I can't see that doing anything. Bob Carr needs the extra money after all the money he has wasted on trains, health, water etc

The pokies tax will be the death of the club within the next 5-6yrs even if they do sell ALL of their assets which they don't want to do.

On top of this the pokies tax is the main reason why the Tigerdome hasn't got underway, Balmain have the approval from everyone even from the bank for the loan Balmain just don't see that the TD will be able to make a big enough profit for them with the Pokies tax now being implemented :(

Balmain didn't play a part in the move to Telstra that was decided by the West’s Tigers - Balmain will still be playing their PL and JF games out of Leichhardt Oval next year.

See the WTS aren’t really concerned about the crowds at the moment they main focus is on making money, the money they get from games at TS really don't depend on ticket sales unless of course they reach over the 14k mark in which gate takings are split on a % basis

The NRL wants clubs to fall over or go broke and relocate. It makes their job that much easier.

The pokies tax was the main reason that the comp wasn't expanded.
They suspect that the pokies tax will kill off a few clubs for them.

Think about that the NRL own the rights to the game they don't pay for the clubs to pay the players the clubs do - so why should the NRL be paying for the salary cap???

On the TV rights they arn't due to be talked about until 2007 I think and thats only for channel 9 rights - Fox own the game so nothing much will change there :(

Yeah well I think the main reason the players have made it public that they will protest against the Pokies tax is simple they want us to join them ;-)

Look we all know it won't be removed but the level that is being taxed can be dropped and well the government won't even budge on that :(

fox will not pay more for the game as the competiton from optus is not there like it was a few years ago, and MT how much does it cost balmain to hold the premier league and flegg games at leichhardt, as i see it cost about $10000.00 for wests tugers to hire the ground from the government.

I laugh when I hear this talk about the next pay TV contract being a windfall for the NRL. Do you really think Murdoch spent all that dough to destroy his competition in Pay TV to then go and pay big bucks to show a game he also half owns when there is no competition bumping up the price? If the NRL can even manage to get the same money as they get now they should do handstands.

The man is evil, not stupid.

What, to the Central Coast, and become the Central Coast Tigers???

Well the 2.5 million dollars isn't enough. Only one or two clubs are making a profit and with the poker machine tax clubs will need more income. If the NRL can come up with another one million dollars per club that will help. It is estimated that the poker machine tax will cost the clubs about 15 million dollars. Now they is 15 clubs but only 11 are from NSW and not all clubs have league's club so some clubs will still have to find another source of income. But the NRL needs to help the club's more. One option is for the club to make a share of gambling on the NRL by entering a partnership with SportOdds or another ageny.
