Should the clubs, their boards, the NRL, ARL, NSWRL or QRL be responsible for the off field behaviour of players?
We are talking about adults here.
I believe that the NRL has made a grave mistake this year in setting a precedent of pushing responsibility for players behaviour onto the clubs. The flow on effect created has now moved to all of the games governing bodies QRL, NSWRL, ARL and NRL.
As a result we now have a situation where the games officials will have to not only deal with every thing that the media manages to dig up, no matter how small and trivial but be seen to be effectively dealing with it.
What would have happened if the NRL had taken a stance at the beginning of this year where "If it didn't happen on the field it has nothing to do with us and is that/those player(s) problem to deal with."
i.e. NRL response to the media.
Bulldogs Scandal - "I'm sorry, you'll have to take that up with the police"
Storm Scandal - "I'm sorry, you'll have to take that up with the police"
Walker Scandal - "I'm sorry, you'll have to take that up with the player or the police"
Gasnier Scandal - "I'm sorry, you'll have to take that up with the player or the police. Has it been reported to the police?"
