Retirements

Yesterday Craig Field announced his retirement from the game, since coming to Newtown he has been a standout both on and off the field and I for one hope he is around next year to assist the team. He is a natural leader and has fit in well at the club.

I wish him all the best. If Newtown can keep Hall this loss will not be as bad as some would think.

How many of this seasons team will be playing next season. Will Alfie be retiring. Will Newtown be holding onto players of the calibre of Ben COOK, John SINISA, Thomas GEMMEL and Philip LULILI ( sorry about the spelling Phil ) ?????

What kind of say do Newtown have in this selection process, or do Cronulla pick their own side then allow for a couple of vacancies ETC. How will it work ?????

I heard Phillip got signed by the Sharks.

My understanding of the process is this.

Cronulla have an open squad of 30 people. Newtown has their squad.

Murph has the final say in what side he picks in PL EXCEPT if Stuart Raper drops a guy back for form, injury, etc.

The balance of Newtown players go to JBC.

Not at all. How ridiculous.

The 13 players go and play PL (ie. they play for Newtown).

In theory, the Jets could have 13 contracted Sharks. A whole starting line up without players contracted to the Jets but turening out for the Jets.

The reality (with injuries and the Jets having some better players than the Sharks 18-30th ranked players) will be much different.

What about the points system that exists in Jim Beam Cup. Too many of the players who played in PL 2004 would have too many points accumelated to get a run in JBC wouldn't they ?.

How many vacancies will there be in the Cronulla/Newtown PL side next year for the players who played for the jets in 2004. 4, 6 ,1 HOW MANY ???? Does anyone know.

Will players such as Ben COOK, John SINISA, be playing next year. If they are and can only play JBC, how many points are there under the current JBC points policy for the other players to get a run ?????.

Ben Cook will play State of Origin and Australia no he has access to the NRL and Chicka will be loved by one and all. All places are up for grabs and the competition will be very hard for all.

You are right about the points with the clubb looking for quality 2 point players looking for a chance to show their stuff as well as 4 point players to fit under the 100 points.

I was just asking mate!!! ;-)

I think in reality, some of those excess players that the Sharks have will also qualify for Flegg, and will play there instead of at Newtown.

Craig Field, a talented player someone I use to look up to along side Trickey during the 90's. It's a shame that certain incidents ruin these talented kids careers while others seem to of faced no consequences cept a re-signing of their contracts.

Thanks for the prmopt reply mate, I didn't want to put you out or nothing.

Although 280 views on this subject may suggest that I was not alone in wanting to know. Thanks.....

Does anyone know about COOK and SINISA are they signed by Newtown for next season ?

Will players like Troy BARNES, Alf DUNCAN, Bilal NAJARRIN being playing for Newtown next season, or will there be retirements.

Were any announcements to this effect made at the end of year function ??

Ben COOK was the players player in a tie with FIELDY, and John SINISA was our leading try scorer.

These players should be held at all costs. They would be the essence and strike power of the Jim Beam side even if they didn't start the season in Premier league.

With players like Hamilton HUGHES and Ly we would kick arse.

Who have Newtown actually retained or re-signed. If no-one am I alone in thinking they should be trying to retain these players for next season ?

If Cronulla can't fit them in cause they've already got wingers and obviously just want a little bit of forward power, Newtown should try to keep them for Jim Beam Cup.

Luke HESSION was a great player for the Jets in 2003 prior to going to Balmain. If Newtown don't sign them Im sure they'll get a run with another club, and the Jim Beam side will never make the finals cause it lacks the constant coersion from good players playing week in and week out in the same side.

This Cronulla deal could be a real good opportunity for our Jim Beam cup side to make the finals next season. Having had some of the pressure taken from it perhaps now that there is an NRL club involved.

However it surely is crucial to secure some good players as early as possible.

The trouble now is that you have silly season. Player trials etc. It's only when this dies down that you hear about signings.

Dont forget about the point system in JBC..

Too many PL players coming down is impossible, considering you have Jersey Flegg players coming up aswell (6 points?), and PL players are (9 points I think)..

100 points for 17 players, will be difficult next year..

PL players from Newtown will be worth between 6-9 points depending on length of service Cronulla will be a max of 10 points until the following year. Flegg are worth 4 points and we are already talking to a number of players who will be only 2 points. It will be difficult but we are used to it and have yet to be over the 100 points in two seasons.

We recruited Hamilton Hughes this year and is a 2 pointer and will jump in points due to his run in PL and next year we will look for another Hamilton Hughes not just sign ex NRL names looking for some money not that we could ever afford it. Just looking for promising players who are looking for an opportunity.
