If they are rolling in the cash why are they letting top flight clubs go under?

Here here. The announcement is great news. RFL can't dictate how people run their clubs.

RFL Interim Chairman Maurice Watkins has done his own review..

http://www.therfl.co.uk//~rflmedia/docs/RFL_TheWatkinsReview.pdf

interesting bit..

For the
sale of broadcast rights for the period 2012 to 2016, the rights to broadcast International matches were
excluded from the joint offering. Agreements were concluded with Sky, the BBC and Premier Sport for the
broadcast of the Super League, World Club Challenge, Challenge Cup, Championships and Northern Rail
Cup in the sum of £135million for the period 2012 to 2016.

£135million is a hell of alot more than got reported.......and that does'nt include international matches...

I understand they can't babysit clubs and stop the idiots from running clubs into the ground, but rugby league was better off with a welsh team in super league and it would be a tragedy not to have Bradford in the big league! I hope they aren't holding anything back and if they are rolling in the cash then they have some big future plans.

wales are better off have 2,3,4 teams in the championship with 100% welsh players growing the game organically than having 1 team in ESL full of reject aussies/kiwis & a couple welshmen..

as for bradford......they ain't going anywhere, they are too big to not be in super league, even if they fold and a new side is formed..they'll still be in super league and playing at odsal

You're probably right 'spud but at least the Scottish soccer clubs did the right thing with Rangers and kept the integrity of the comp intact. If Bradford fold and the new club is allowed to continue in SL then that makes a mockery of the licencing system. We are saying that a club is bigger than the game and that's a bad signal to be sending out.

that bad signal was sent out years ago when london folded and the clubs voted to keep them in super league..

and scottish football is gonna pay the price for knocking rangers down to the 3rd div...the vast majority of the worth of the scottish tv deal is based on celtic v rangers games...thats why they played each other at least 4 times a season

Surely if the SPL/SFA have already sold tv tights to the SPL then the tv company involved can't dictate to them who should play in which division. If they are in the middle of renegotiating the tv deal then that's a different matter. Scottish football will survive the Rangers newco coming in at Div 3 just as RL would survive the Bradford newco coming in at CC1. If Bradford fold and the new club is in the SL next season we may as well tell the rest of the Championship and Championship 1 clubs to wrap in now as there will always be clubs that are ring fenced and will always be in SL regardless of how they run their affairs. London, for me, are a different kettle of fish. A London presence in SL is vital for the game. Another M62 club isn't.

Fairly sure it was Richard Lewis who made sure the clubs would agree to keep London in the comp. It was his vision that saw the need for London in super league

The debacle at Leigh last November def sent a msg to the Championship1 clubs...Should the Centurians have been demoted due to the financial mess they were in? might have knackered the rescue plan if they had...

SL isnt ringfenced, as 2014 will show.

Cas will probably be dumped at the next round of licences but sooner rather than later we'll be looking at a twelve team SL with all the favourites included regardless of the state of the club. Then we'll see if it's ringfenced or not. Bradford's history should not be a guarantee of a seat at the top table.

SCOTTISH football is on the brink of entering a new season without the Sky deal that would throw a lifeline to SPL clubs drowning in the wake of Rangers being put into Division Three.
The top-flight clubs met at Hampden yesterday to invite Dundee into the top flight as Rangers’ replacement.
But SPL chief Neil Doncaster then refused to discuss whether Sky – who had agreed in principal an £80million deal over the next five years – would honour that commitment without having four Old Firm games to show over at least the next three years.

as for SL being ringfenced.....it is for some clubs...some clubs have to be there like bradford....the likes of widnes, salford, wakefield & cas could all be replaced with the likes of halifax, fev, leigh, sheffield and be no worse.....thats why i'm all for cutting the dead wood out of super league....cut it down to 10 teams

The Sots TV deal has a clause in it that the league has to have the old firm playing in the SPL, this is because of the constant rumours that they would one day move to play in England. Sky seemed to be dropping hints through their newspapers that they would allow it to slide for one year but no more. Than fans from all other clubs in Scotland started threatening to end their subscriptions and the stories seemed to suddenly stop.

Scottish Football is stupid I mean Wales have Cardiff and Swansea in the English League's just make's sense that Scotland's major club's should be in the English Leagues.

I believe neither Swansea nor Cardiff can qualify for Europe from an English competition according to UEFA rules. The same would happen if Rangers or Celtic moved to play in the English leagues. European competition, especially the Champions League, is too lucrative to miss out on for the Scottish clubs.
