Ricky Stuart player recruitment.

I have reservations about RS and player recruitment.

I realise that this thread will no doubt bring out the closet Roosters fans (such as mahlidad)....

Did RS recruit anyone at the Roosters and have it be a sucess. I can only really find failures.

Finch... gone
Amos... not as good as Panthers Amos and he has not really improved.
Anasta... speaks for itself

Who else did he recruit while he was there and what did they achieve? I can't really think of any others.

All of the other good Roosters players were already there!!!

Ricketson, Fitler, Minichello, Cross etc.

I have a feeling that a few Roosters players may slowly make their way into our team.

Not sure if we'll get a high profile player but would not be surprised to see a forward. No chance that we;ll get the cat. I hope.

After Roper there is nothing but anticipation for 07.

What did RS achieve while there??? - He got to 3 GF while there - i would accept that.

How could they afford anyone else of caliber legally.

This will be RS chance to prove his worth. Pending on his work with our halves next year off the forward pack we will field - there is major potential.

Roster Amos -v- Panther Amos, that reminds me of

Bulldog Vangana -v- Shark Vangana

Amos didn't drop of anywhere near as much as Vagana though.

I rate him to be honest, he's quick, knows how to hit a hole and pretty strong for his size as well.

Harrison, Myles and Nuts all signed when Sticky was there.

Also mate, given they made so many grand finals what was the need for major recruiting. Retention is just as important and I think Ricky did ok in that regard.

Fair call I guess retention was pretty good.

Bulldogs Vagana didn't have to play in the same team as Phil Bailey.

I am expecting RS to be a lot better than Raper. Not too sure if Harrison, Myles and Nutley are that good...

Myles can't even make 1st grade for the Bulldogs... and don't say how good their pack is because they got belted by the Broncos pack.

I'd be pretty pleased if someone like Craig Wing turned up.

Well if you walked into a team with the likes of Fittler, Minichielo, Cross, Morley, Fitzgibbon, Ricketson, Wing etc there wouldn't be much need for recruitment would there?

It's more important that he was able to turn them into a winning combination. The fruits of Stuarts recruitment will be seen in the next few years as the likes of Soward and Pearce step up as his focus, after walking into a side full of big names, would of been recruiting for the future. There are already Stuart recruits like Shillington, Shackleton (who by the way is a Cron-Car junior), the Paeas and a pretty good player by the name of Tupou.

Horses for courses. Recruitment isn't ALL about getting big names. Why spend money when you don't have to? Better, in the case of the Roosters during Stuarts tenure, to buy for the future.

Stuart was actually interviewed on 2GB yesterday and he touched on recruitment in that interview. It's clear he would of done things differently at the Sharks if the timing had of been better. Not much he can do when the marketplace is already bereft of product.

Stuart interview wrap.

I have no idea how you can call Roberts and Finch failures to be honest. Finch directed the team around the park to 3 GFs whether people like to admit that or not. He also played SOO. Roberts is a genius who only suffered this year due to being made the team yo yo after injuries hit.

Anasta is just Anasta.

You mean run on side don't you? And yes I will say how good their pack is, because it is that damn good. What can you do if you have O'Meley, Mason, Ryan, Sonny Bill, Astotasi ahead of you? That said the Rooters definately paid overs for him, but whose to say how good he will be in a year or 2?

How many from our pack do you think would be able to break into the Dogs run on side?

Finch is definately underated as well, he was fourth this year in Try Assists behind only Johns, Orford and Lockyer and had a great game for NSW in game 1.

He is another I have pencilled in as interested in watching next year.

There pack were actually given credit by big Wayno. In the second half when the Broncs put 31 unanswered points on the dogs - it was the shifting of the ball across the ruck with short passes and finding the room in the fringe.

Even Webcke was passing. Didnt work in the first half by out bashing them - so you do have to give the Dogs pack credit for that.

Just put it down to the smarts of the old master and the team for sticling to the execution.

Roberts is actually a far better allround player at the Roosters. His defence is FAR better. However Ricky messed him up by playing Roberts outside Cross, who rarely passes the ball. At the start of the season he was played next to Soliola, who draws & offloads well, & they have communication in defence. They are an awesome combination. However Roberts was starved of the ball outside Cross. It can be said by our match v Dragons in Rd 26. Roberts touched the ball 3 times all game. Twice he scored (one was him flying up the middle in support, turning everyone inside out, the other was him screaming out of nowhere onto a Lewis grubber, outpacing several defenders), & the other was a linebreak that nearly led to a try but Finch put the ball down with the line wide open. Hopefully John Williams lives up to his potential next year, meant to be fast & strong.

Best of luck to the Sharkies next year, just please don't take any of our players :D

I hope we don't finish up with Soward. I thought he was very poor in the PL grand final. He missed a field goal from about ten metres out

Josh Lewis is light years ahead of Soward

Absolutely. Lewis will be a gun. Soward may turn into a good player but I doubt he'll be a star. If he could learn to tackle well I think he'd make a great 9.

Sticky should still be able to draw in talented footballers unlike Roper.

I would've loved to seen how our recruitment would've went had we known Ricky was going to be in charge on June 30th.

I'm sure elite players like Webster etc would have looked a lot harder at being a Shark. We'll see what happens next year come recruitment for 2008 and beyond.

Yeah good one Boldo you CAT!!! Sticky is going to have the guts to drop under performing players unlike roper! Such as ur fav player Scott wouldnt have played more than 2 games!! If the team was so good befor he got there why didnt they make the GF befor?!
As for recruitment, players of high calibare want to play for him he also brought over morley and he also sees juniors with talent re Lewis, soward, tuopo and soliola.
If Anderson finds success at the rorters its due to rickys work! 3 grand finals would fit fine with me and didnt we lose to them twice this year?!
By the way thanks for giving it to me about the broncos. Who won the comp?!

I thought he came after 2000?! My bad. He did turn cayless into a decent forward. Was hopless under his brother at parra and brought in experiece in Mullins to win the title.
