A legend who stood out in every team he played for, even the outmatched 1982 Great Britain team (3rd Test).

He was also one of the few players who managed to score against the 82 invincibles during a club game Vs Hull FC.

A member of Englands World Cup winning squad in 1972 he also toured Australia and New Zealand as a Great Britain Lion.

Toppo was a Wakefield lad who represented his hometown team through thick n thin and won the Lance Todd Trophy as man of the match at the 1979 Challenge Cup final at Wembley.

He was a good sevent of the Balmain Tigers and Penrith during two stints in the ARL.

He will be missed around the circles of Rugby league where he always stayed active.

RIP Toppo

This has stunned me. Toppo was the pivot of the succesful Hull team of the eighties. We got him a little late in his career but he still did a great job for us. RIP David.
