People would tend to go for the overall experience of the weekend, rather than be drawn just by their club's match or opponent.

As long as the ticket price is good value, then it comes down to things like travel and accommodation and the attraction of spending a summer long weekend in another city.

They are into their 4th (?) installment in 2010, so it is an event on the rugby league calender. People are going to attend irrespective of who their club is playing. It sounds like a great weekend.

Went this year...

Wasnt overly impressed. Great concept that is poorly executed, lacks any event feel to it and is basically just 8 games of Rugby League.

The RFL really need to up their game in terms of venue entertainment, bars, catering and half-time/mid game entertainment. Could be turned into a great weekend that could attract new fans to the game, however I can just see it rolling on gathering the usual suspects. Pity.

Another thing I noticed was a real lack of penetration in the local media and not many of the locals knew about the event.

So do you think the idea I got for the NRL from this concept could have legs?
Bush Week
- Entire Round Of Matches Playing in the bush.

- With suggestions that Central Queensland wanted to enter the NRL have a double header at Browne Park Rockhampton to test the water. (Preferably with the 3 Queensland Teams on show) They could have the Central Comets play their Queensland Cup game as a curtain raiser.

- I'll also had that in the week leading up to it that the teams go to local schools and give coaching clinics.

The NRL probably wouldn't take it on cuz it's a good idea.

Its not a good idea

Why would you play an ENTIRE round in the bush? This, while good for the game would be rejected on many grounds such as a huge loss of revenue for the clubs through gate, corporate and sponsorship and potential membership (STH).

It would also be a logistical nightmare for TV (more revenue for the NRL).

I beleive the game does a fairly good job with playing trial matches away from traditional grounds and heading out to bush areas. Probably a bit more could be done on this part. No need for the NRL to do a magic weeked.

Searle has done a great thing in organising and getting the NRL to promote the all-star game.

Next step to raise extra revenue is to return the sevens weekend on a large 'major event' style. IMO Suncorp Stadium and the surrounding Caxton Street precinct is ripe for the picking utalising the street and plaza area for entertainment.

I'd rather they took each of the 7 games to a different expansion venue (they did something similar to this once when they were considering expansion)
