Should have been a min season sat out then assessed. That should be the min punishment for women bashing imo. Smith likes to talk big but often delivers small.

Damn they couldnt have got this out before Slothfields ravings, he'll smuggly be writing his next piece now about how the NRL only reacted becaase of him and the brain dead masses will believe him.

As if on cue!

It?s a shame it took media pressure from this newspaper to get the right outcome for all women in rugby league and White Ribbon Australia - Rothfield

On behalf of all NRL fans, I'd like to thank Phil Rothfield for his campaign to see this guy properly punished.

I'm glad we have someone to speak out against the NRL's incompetence, & violence against women.

Why didn't Rothfield speak out 3 months ago?

Well done to the NRL for following due process.

For once I completely agree with how the NRL have handled a situation. They waited for the courts to do their thing. Handed out a harsh punishment befitting the crime and backed it up by warning that this is Auva'as one and only chance.

Now, hopefully this bloke puts his head down, goes through all the rehab and comes out the other side a better person.

I hope now the victim can see these sanctions as some closure as well.

Lucky he did not take a line of coke at party.

That gets you 2 years.

Beat up a women, 9 months from the NRL.

Society says 3K and a good behavior bond.

Call someone a merkin, 50K.

Yep, back to usual, media outrage beats any common sense.

If your boyfriend Gallen in the past hadn't: racially abused another player, intentially ripped out another players facial stitches, been banned for taking illegal substances and then act like a dickhead whilst on this drug suspension then he wouldn't have gotten such a big fine.

But of course, he's very conveniently depressed. Which is why he spent his time away from the game drinking, which is a depression inducing drug.

Playing professional sport for a living should be a privilege, not a right. Why let him back in the game at all? Same with someone like Russell Packer. Why should the NRL have any responsibility to these idiots? If they're convicted of a serious crime and do the time, good for them, hopefully they're rehabilitated and go on to live a happy, fulfilled life. But why give them an opportunity that thousands would give their left nut for? Off to live in the real world and get a job they're otherwise qualified for, like 99.9% of the population.

He copped a good behaviour bond didn't he? If the court rulings say that this guy can be helped down the right path through rehabilitation then why can't the NRL do the same thing.

I can only imagine how Gallop would have handled the situation. Even having a law background himself he never really seemed to be a fan of due process

You don't have to imagine, Gallop had plenty of chances to show how he reacted to violence against women. It was a hell of a lot stronger than this piss weak approach.

Remember Latu for the Sharks? punched a chick at a 7/11 and was promptly run out of the code. Had to change his f**king name and play in England.

How about Greg Bird? Sat out until court proceedings finished given the serious nature of the charges. Reinstated once he won his case on appeal.

Robert Lui? Banned for 12 months

He DID drop the ball on Cherrington, Inglis, and Gordon though.

Just a disgrace to the code.

Maybe
Still better than being known for beating a woman.

I was glad to see the rabbits win one for their fans.
They'd obviously been through a lot.
But .... A few have shown what sort of scum they really are by defending this lowlife coward.
