Just read "Rugby League in New Zealand - A people's history" by Ryan Bodman. Got it from my library. Covers the game and players from 1907 to 2017. Lots of photo's of club and International players. Well worth a read.

(If anyone else wants to add good league books I will pin this thread.)

I got this book for Christmas and read it in a few days. I really enjoyed it, however I would warn potential readers that it’s written from quite an ‘academic’ perspective. It is a bit repetitive at times because Bodman is trying to hammer home certain socio-economic or political points - that’s not a criticism, it’s exactly what he sets out to do. Just don’t expect match reports or discussion about the on-field action, that’s not what this is.

I''d like to read about the West Coast, where my father grew up. I'm a North Islander (so is my mum, who hates Greymouth and West Coasters!) but, as the years have gone by, I'm more and more interested in that part of the world.

It's fascinating how it's a league stronghold and it's why league was always around our house growing up, in union-mad Manawatu (then Hawkes Bay).

not sure if you’re aware, the Greymouth Greyhounds are now playing in the Canterbury Premiership, have formed a partnership with the Papanui Tigers. Picked up their first win a couple of weeks back

Cheers, no, I didn't know that, but it's good news. I hope their budget allows them to stay the night in Ch.Ch before games!

They're now my team in the Canterbury comp!
