Greeks sooking over recent sanctions?

There were a number of nations that were apparently upset about Emerging Nations, none of them have probably even played real test matches.

Again I don't see how Italy gets involved in this nonsense

The RLIF isn't perfect in governance or assistance (in fact, they don't seem to do a whole lot aside from organise the WC and enforce some standards).

But I don't see how a group of tiny federations with less than zero cash are going to improve anything

From the site:

The founding General Assembly took place in Athens Greece and it was the result of long-time talks and efforts, of people from all over the World.
People who love the sport of Rugby League and suffer from discrimination, illegalities, arbitrary interference in their internal affairs and domination from other organizations, decided to put an end to all these and form a new International Federation, that will invest on domestic development and sports values.
Our Statute, Rules, Regulations and Circulars, are in-line with the Olympic Map requirements, as we want to establish a new, international environment for the sport of Rugby League.
Not only the founding members, but also many domestic federations, associations, leagues, clubs and individuals have approached us so as to widen the range of countries and territories who wish to become part of the international rugby league sport family.
We consider no-one as enemy. Rugby Union, American Football, Gaelic Football, Australian Football, Soccer, Handball, ect are part of the same athletic heritage that comes from the far past and drives the future forward, in a world of sportsmanship, solidarity and friendship.

They have commissioners positions for Europe/Americas/Asia and for Asia/Oceania on the board, which is not named.

They have games coming up between Greece and Italy an also Pakistan but no others listed.

I'd guess it's the Greek rebel body, the Italian rebel body driving this who have been sanctioned or rejected by the RLIF. Hopefully no one else sensible gets involved.

Good luck to them.. if they get more players playing Rugby League then whatever.

I'd say the picture here is very likely rebel bodies throwing a tantrum with some Union fingers stirring the pot.

Hopefully nothing comes of the rumblings after the Emerging Nations debacle, don't want to see genuine nations pulling away.

The situation in Italy and previously US really makes you wonder how the RLIF decide who is best to run the game in each country. I tend to think they would just go with the lot who were there first which could definitely lead to a boy's club attitude from those organisations like what happened with the AMNRL/USARL.

Problem with that is this isn't a Super League War type situation where there are millions of dollars involved. The "rebel" organisations could be far more suited to running the game in that country but lose out and treated as outcasts because they don't agree with another lot that got their power by simply being there first.

For example if I set up Vietnam rugby league tomorrow, play an exhibition club 9's game with expats, then 2 days later an organisation comes to the RLIF with solid plans for a 12 team domestic comp and international program, I wouldn't be surprised if the RLIF would just send them to me because I'm the boss of RL in Vietnam.

Speaking of SE Asia, there's enough bloody Aussies in Bali/Indonesia all the time someone should start up something here.

...if it wasn't so f**king hot.
