DAVID COLLIER APPOINTED RLIF CHIEF EXECUTIVE

The Rugby League International Federation is delighted to announce the appointment of David Collier OBE as its CEO with effect from 1 April 2015 to be based in London . David Collier is a graduate of Loughborough University reading Sports Science and Recreation Management and he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in 2014 by the University for his services to sport . He completed his studies in managing multi-national corporations at Insead Paris and Wharton Business School USA .
David has experience in serving on two world governing bodies of sport , the International Cricket Council and the International Hockey Federation , as well as being a Tournament Director at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi . He has senior executive management experience in the airline and computer systems industries including responsibility for operations in 103 countries . For the past 10 years he has served as the CEO of the England and Wales Cricket Board where he was credited with transforming the finances and structure of the sport.
Chairman of RLIF Nigel Wood commented : " RLIF is delighted to have appointed a CEO with 30 years’ experience of leading a number of the world's leading sports organisations . David has the highest reputation in the world of sport and brings a wealth of international experience as RLIF seeks to build upon the success of the 2013 World Cup and the exciting prospects for the Rugby League World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2017 . The Board were unanimous in their decision to appoint David and we look forward to working with our new CEO to ensure the success of the global expansion of our sport ."
David Collier commented : " I am honoured by the opportunity to lead RLIF and the sport of Rugby League and thank the Chairman and the Board for their trust in me . My first priority will be to meet with the broadest possible range of stakeholders , to develop and commence delivery of our strategic plan and to create an international calendar which reflects the strength of our Club competitions throughout the world and the success of the World Cup. Rugby League is one of the most exciting sports in the world and the enthusiasm of the crowds and television audiences at the recent World Cup demonstrates the great opportunity which we have to further expand and develop our sport . "

DC: “Always employ the best people to work for you – quality rather than quantity is the key to success.”
GlobalSportsJobs: What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your career?
DC: “The return to India for the England cricket team after the Mumbai terrorist attack and managing unprecedented demand on the capacity of more than 35% of the world's travel reservations on our computer systems when there was a fare war in North America.”

DC: “To decide to move on from American Airlines, who had been a pleasure to work for, and to have shared the exciting road of AMR's international expansion with so many talented people who remain friends to this day.”
GlobalSportsJobs: Tell us about the ECB – are you hiring at the moment or are there any plans to hire new talent in the near future?
DC: “We have a very talented team and with the current economic climate it is important we control our cost base to ensure that the maximum amount of funding and support is available for the development of the game from playground to Test arena.”
GlobalSportsJobs: What sort of qualities do you look for in an applicant for a job at the ECB?
DC: “Personality and the ability to communicate, commitment and a passion for the role, a proven track record of achievement and the ability to work as part of a team.”
GlobalSportsJobs: What do you believe is the key ingredient to putting together a successful team of staff members?
DC: “Don't compromise on quality and ensure that the business is engaging as a team and not as departments operating in their own silo.”
GlobalSportsJobs: What would be your key piece of advice for someone starting out in the sports industry?
DC: “Ensure that your CV has a balance between roles within the sports industry and experience from other business areas, especially in blue chip organisations.”

DC: “To ensure that cricket in England and Wales remains at the top of our world sport and to play a wider role in the development of sport on a global scale.”
The NRL has done well appointing non rugby league people lol so we go again but at least he has been involved running a sport.
The NRL has already run off with its own pacific island strategy as the RLIF was treading water so we now have an England focussed RLIF v Australia NZ Pacific Is. I suspect....that can only end in tears for the RLIF
'Rugby league' people got us in the position we are now as an inward, insular sport that hasn't spread anywhere near as much as it should have. We need people who are ambitious, experienced in running big time business and who want our sport to grow to its potential.
