Maybe it's the Xbox One talking, but I'm not overly fussed with the graphics. It may be a settings problem but the colours look all wrong, like the cheerleaders are 4 shades of black/brown. Possible gamma set incorrectly, I was pretty tired booting it up at 10:30 last night.
Animations are good but I've found the gameplay/replays jerky in sections, nothing we didnt see in the footage pre-release though.
Had 4 games all up, a Dragons Vs. QLD Cup Tigers which I lost 4-0, a Grand Final between Dragons and Titans which I won 24 - 0, A 9's game as Dragons V Sharks which I won 18 - 6 (I think) and a career game.
The first 2 were to get a feel for the game, learn some controls, etc. They were ok, very much like RLL2 but more polished, found dummy half running better, and forwards running the ball up more effective. One intercept, but mostly the ball goes forward from the pass/knock on if I try to get too fancy.
The real fun for me was the 9's game. Holy f**k that was fun. Obviously gaps are easier to find and exploit but also harder to defend. Great addition to the game, can't wait for my 9's tournament on the weekend with mates before the footy on Saturday!
Made myself for a career mode, started a 183cm, 104kg right side centre with speed to burn.
It's.... odd. Standing out in the centres calling for the ball and sometimes coming across field to make a quick hit up and making good, fast chases from kicks is a bit ......boring? I ended up calling for the ball a bit more and trying to play a bit of a ball playing role through the middle. I did score a try on debut and made 100 odd metres though. I bumped the match halves to 10 mins and might drop them back to 5's for this mode, at least until I get into the NRL side.
Didnt get to put a whole lot of time in as I had prior engagements but so far I'd give it a 8/10. 9's mode alone gives it an extra 2 points. I'll play around with the graphical settings tonight and give it a few more hours and report back.
