But they also had seven heritage players this time. And the last time they played Wales was seven years ago. Frankly, i expected them to go better. At least get on the board.

Shame about the Spanish result (for me anyway!), but I think it was always going to be Ireland, Italy, and Wales getting to the RLWC. Wales was the slightly more-likely of the three to miss out, but unless there was something seriously wrong with them, they should have always been too strong for the other developing nations. The likes of Spain, Serbia, Russia, ect, have another four years to get themselves ready for the 2021 RLWC, so should be much stronger for that time.

I don't know if you saw the game ECT but Serbia were denied a perfectly good try very early on. Having said that I agree that they were very very basic in the way they played especially in the first half. Lots of one out stuff.

Italy 62 - Serbia 14 (Serbia out of contention, i believe)
Ireland 46 - Spain 6 (Spain also out)

Next week we have:
Russia - Ireland
Italy - Wales

(Shame about Serbia and Spain. They were the 2 i wanted to see make it. Fingers crossed for Russia now)

Predictability or the reason for it?

Well, both really.

When post war immigration dictates the result of a game I'd say it's bad. And that's what dictates virtually all "international" RL these days.

That late rally by Serbia on Saturday did Wales a bit of a favour. They are top of the group on points diff and can avoid the playoff game with a minimum of a draw in Monza this weekend.

C'mon the taffs!

I think Italy will win against Wales. I'm not kidding, but it was like watching an NRL team play that first 20 minutes. But, it should be a great match and I can't wait to watch it!

I agree, I think Italy will win quite comfortably. Wales are way down on strike power and Italy have a reasonable squad of players who play at a decent level.

I'm giong with Russia and Italy. There's a whole year until the clash in the SouthEast, and Europe won't like to rely on the Brexiting UK.

Anyone think Russia can give Ireland a decent shake? Both put similar scores on Spain. hoping for an upset.

I went to the 2008 WC qualifier between Ireland and Russia and Russia led 10-nil...before totally capitulating and losing big.

Ireland are probably weaker than they were back then, but Russia probably is too. Ireland had more SL players than they do now while Russia had guys like Ovchinikov. Can't see an upset. Maybe if it was in Russia they'd have some vague hope.
