10 mins in. Storm 6-0 after 15 mins. Our online D is poor, easily could be down more if not for storm bombing a couple of chances. our forwards doing a good job so far getting it out of our red zone. Unfortunately not much field position for us so far.

End of the 1st half. Melb leading 18-0. Forwards did an ok job early on, but Smith and Cronk picked us to pieces later in the half when we were tired. Our attacking shape looks a hell of a lot better than it did through the trials. Just Can't get up the other end of the field to convert on it. When we did, forced passes and poor kicking cost us. Stand outs, Prior, Mez and Morris. Friz, King and Beale have also been good. Melbourne's online defence has been superb.

Glaring issue to me, was the main issue I had over the trials. We were opened up almost at will 1 or 2 passes off the ruck. Our attack from our own half and mid field was good. General kicking was rubbish and really, we could not build any pressure because of it. Fien was poor as was King. Ah Mau was our match player IMO. His 2nd stint was great. Prior and Mez were also good.
Harrison dead set must be afraid of getting dirty... he just did not look for work or run with any purpose! Apposed to him Frizzle looked really good with the lines he ran with a couple of quality offloads on top.

All in all, stupid errors and penalties cost us dearly. But there were definitely positives in there. No pants were pulled down though :D

WTF are channel nine thinking of
Walley Lewis, Graham Bradley & Andrew Johns commentating
its bad enough watching us lose but to listen to the most dry boring
commentators in da world.
They should use these three against terrorists instead of water boarding
Bring back Vossy.

Well today was fairly predictable. When we have a hopeless coach, no half back and lack genuine class we will always get belted. Hardly surprising. Most disappointing thing for me is that we have lost our defensive structures and discipline. Price needs the blame. A couple of good efforts in defence today but overall far too inconsistent. Kicking game was disgraceful (but again I expected that).

Ah mau was again one of our better forwards with Merrin.

I live in Dubai and Sunday is a work day, so I have taped the game (local network shows EVERY game live, so thats a positive).

Unfortunately, I know the score and am dreading watching the replay tonight when I get home... should I bother?

Chin up guys, we were never going to beat them down there. Our second half performance was a tad better than the first, but to be honest Melbourne were in cruise control. Our much lauded defence is ancient history, the storm were able to score almost at will. Fein at halfback is a disaster, but we all knew that, sadly our coach was of a different view. Price decision making continues on from last year. But at least Melbourne did not put 50+ on us and we did keep our 2 try average per game intact.

So what has changed from last year? Sadly nothing in my view based on what I have seen today. No need to elaborate as we all know where the problem areas are. Our real season starts next week against the Broncos. Win it and maybe we will finish mid field with a few good wins along the way. Loose it badly and it is season over for mine.

Stanley looks in big trouble. Also the opinions from the Cutters game yesterday was Drinkwater was ordinary, especially in defence. Time will tell.

What an oxygen thief Price is. Forwards Ok. Attack awfull again. Will Fien be the half next year? No. So why persist with him now. Time to move on and see what Drinkwater can do, if hes not up to it then start looking for a replacement this year. Cooper is over the hill. Will probably survive because Stanley is gone for a long time i suspect and Vidot cant defend in the centers so i guess Green comes in. Thought Soward was lazy, didnt take on the line. One try from an intercept, one good try, quite simply not good enough. Pretty much more of the same crap as last year.

I can't help but be dissapointed with that playing Melbourne in Melbourne is always a tough ask. But Saints looked really flat and unenergetic. I was impressed with our new signings, our hooker rotation looks the goods and our forwards were decent tonight plus Morris & Nightingale were their usual selves.

Fien was very ordinary today, Stanley was worse have never rated him I don't think he offered anything Vidot needs to replace him for mine. Obviously not a right off after 1 game and a game against the defending premiers at that but hopefully they can vastly improve by next month or we could be in trouble; I think we can beat the Broncos next week.

- Yep its the same problems as last year (duh!), however atleast Beale looks exciting everytime he gets the ball, our Back 3 are our only attacking strengths right now, we need to utilise them as best we can.

- Storm did the minimum to beat us when they needed to, its true we were unlikely to win down there, but 0/3 already this season (I know they are trials but it doesnt help morale), you get a bit tired of making excuses or blaming bad-luck etc etc.

- Positives were Au Mau up front (like a mobile brick chimney), and Beale as I mentioned, others were solid, but solid tbh isnt enough without a couple of key players having blinders, in particular one of our halves has got to step up asap and run the offence, we cant keep serving up the same crap.

- I dont see the risk in removing Fein, he doesnt do anything, even if Josh sux no loss.

- Chase's Knee, it looked like a classic melbourne trip-tackle, I mean maybe there is some benefit of the doubt, but if he has a longterm injury, they have to cramp down on these tactics, so against the spirit of the game.
